Setup to my training question;

My director, after I assisted another department with selling an old relic firearm for an individual in waiver services came to me today.

She stated that it appears that I am familiar with firearms in general then she asked if she could ask me something personal. Of course I said yeah sure what is up?

So she tells me that ages ago she was gifted a firearm, a 9mm pistol (wasn't quite sure of model or make) but she has never used it. She asked all the basic beginner questions; does she have to register it, what if she wanted to sell it, etc.

After answering her she said that when she was younger she used a shotgun but never anything since, she was generally interested in learning about this pistol of hers since she owns it and would like to have someone show her how to use as well take her through the basics of shooting. She wants to see what shooting is all about before she decides to sell it.

I was really surprised considering I work in a very left leaning / liberal field. I can teach my kids and my wife, but not so comfortable with my supervisor. :)

Do you know of a trainer or indoor shooting range that has an inexpensive individual training class for absolute beginners to give them a taste of what it is about?

Shoot me a PM if you want.

2 ways...she can go to a range and let the RSO know that she is an absolute newb and they will help her. (I'm assuming most ranges will do this. I know they do at Centennial...)

Second is find an instructor who does classes that is willing to do a 1 on 1 class...the issue there is that it won't necessarily be cheap...

But beyond that, I think she should explore shooting sports with a .22LR first and then maybe move to her 9mm. If her 9mm is a smaller gun, it might be uncomfortable for her to shoot. Who knows, maybe she will find out she really enjoys shooting other guns and just not her 9mm or that particular model.

Bristlecone has several female instructors and does women's classes. My wife attended one of the classes with a couple of her "gun curious" left-leaning friends, and said the class was much less macho/conservative than most male instructor classes she's been to.

They've got a "women only" version of their Intro to pistol class this weekend up on their classes calendar.

Another option is to look for a Women on Target program locally. My parents taught it for seveal years, aND is a female only class. Most of the pupils were new, and all loved the class because they felt very comfortable in it. Students were allowed to bring their own firearm, and my parents provided a wide variety of different handguns and long guns for them to try out.

All awesome stuff here, I will pass it along.

Thank you, if we can win one over a little by little we will be a majority. [Beer]
