So last weekend I am buying a .22lr Savage rifle at Walmart here in the Springs. After the BGC comes back and we finalize all the details he gives me a copy of the approval from CBI and says to keep this in case I decide to buy another rifle in the next 30 days. I ask him what he is talking about and he informs me that the BGC is good for a 30 day period and that I can present the copy with the approval number to the next shop and save the $15 fee. He say that his WM has been doing it since he has worked there.
Well for Boy Scouts I needed a cheaper semi auto .22lr so I figure I would give it a shot. I head to another WM where they had the rifle I wanted. The lady behind the counter is unaware of the policy and her manager states that she has never done that. I call the other WM and get the same guy from last week. I explain what is happening and he wants
to talk to the clerk but she refuses. I tell him what I’m looking for and he looks it up and says he has one. I tell him I will be there and he says fine.
i arrive soon after and we start the process filling out the Electronic 4473. He put in the number and it came back approved INSTANTLY-!!!! We finalize everything and I pay for the rifle only and save $15!!! The manager walks the rifle to the doors and I leave after 15 minutes.
Did anyone else know about this?
Im sure those who collect $15 every time someone buys a gun don’t want this known
He said he can’t guarantee it will work for handguns because WM does not sell them.
Be sure to ask for a copy of the approval and save some cash. Good luck!!
What is this "buy another gun within 30 days" of which you speak?

I could be wrong, but... If I recall correctly the BGC is good for 30 days. But only if you don't take immediate possession of the gun for which the check was run. Once a 4473 is completed I don't think it's legal to add another gun to it at a later time.
For example: You're delayed. The approval comes back within the 72 hr period but you can't make it in for two weeks. You'd be good to go with the original BGC.
A current FFL will be able to confirm or deny this.

Ummnm...I don't think that's correct.
Per the 4473 form Section D: "Additional firearms purchases by the same tranferee/buyer may not be added to the form after the transforor/seller has signed and dated it. A transferee/buyer who wishes to acquire additional firearms after the transferor/seller has signed and dated the form, must complete a new ATF Form 4473 and undergo a new NICS check."
Since the seller has to sign the 4473 to complete the transaction, adding additional firearms or taking the approval to another form violates the procedure outlined in Section D.
Also, the $15 is what the state charges to conduct the background check. Your dealer is making nothing on the $15 as he has to pass that on to CBI.

Bailey Guns is correct, the background check is good for 30 days so that the dealer is ok to transfer the firearm in the case of a delay or if the buyer can't make it back right away. That's why there's questions 22 and 23 which is the recertification section that needs to be signed and dated by the buyer when they do make it back to pick up the firearm.

Here's what the ATF has to say:
Can one NICS check be used for more than one firearms transaction?
No. A licensee must initiate a new NICS background check for each completed firearms transaction. However, a person may purchase or acquire several firearms in one transaction.
[27 CFR 478.102]
Example: A transferee completes an ATF Form 4473 for a single firearm on February 15. The licensee receives a “proceed” from NICS that day. The licensee signs the form, and the firearm is transferred. On February 20, the transferee returns to the licensee’s premises and wishes to acquire a second firearm. The acquisition of the second firearm is a separate transaction. Therefore, a new NICS check must be initiated by the licensee.
Example: A transferee completes ATF Form 4473 for a single firearm on February 15. The licensee receives a “proceed” from NICS that day. The transferee does not return to pick up the firearm until February 20. Before the licensee completes the transfer of the first firearm, the transferee decides to acquire an additional firearm. The second firearm may be recorded on the same Form 4473. The acquisition of the 2 firearms is considered a single transaction. Therefore, the licensee is not required to conduct a new NICS check prior to transferring the second firearm.
So, you'd have to not complete the transfer (ie: not take possession of the firearm) and pick up your gun on another day. In that instance you could add a second gun without an additional 4473.

Well, at least they're not selling death dealing semi full auto AR-47's
It's Sunday and the day is winding down and I don't know crap about BATFE regulations except that most of them have no logical basis behind them, so what the heck...
Colorado doesn't use NICS but CBI runs their own system to do background checks.
Like most government regulations, ask enough people that routinely use the system a question, and you are bound to get: an answer you like, some answers that won't make sense, and more than a few answers that will just make you angry and/or frustrated.
Given that you could be charged with a disqualifying offense within hours after you complete a clear background check, why would that background check then be good for 30 days?
Don't we already have enough examples of people who successfully completed background checks, who then go on to commit crimes with guns to prove that clean background checks have no impact on gun crimes? IMO background checks make as much sense as concealed carry permits.

Dont forget the bumpity death stocks [ROFL1]
Btw I hope he printed 2 of the CBI approval forms, it's always nice to file one away with the corresponding 4473 in case the Atf audits the FFL
According to what I've heard on the news, people just buy them off the Internet and have them delivered to their door with no background check.

I always thought it was good for the purchase(s) made on the spot. However, I was told at one shop that the BGC was good for the day and I could come back the same day and purchase another gun without going through the BGC again, even if I came in later that day for a private party transfer. At a gun show, I was told by the BGC people that I could buy from different vendors and the one BGC was good to go for all purchases made that day. I did purchase two guns from two vendors and that was how it worked out for me.

Which once again echos why a BGC is more of a placebo.

It shouldn't have. Which vendor will get the 4473 and which won't have a 4473 to match his bound book? That doesn't make any sense.

Neither vendor was a FFL and were private sellers. I gave them a deposit on the item and took the receipt to the BGC people and filled out one 4473, both gun's SN's written down on the form, paid the $20 they asked as their fee and was good to go. The vendors brought the guns to the table, numbers were confirmed, the guy at the door checked the paperwork and I took them home.

The BGC is good for your time in the store, no matter how many guns you buy. Leave the premises, come back later, another BGC is required. As previously noted, the $15 fee is the state's money. Each FFL is billed monthly on the number of BGC's completed at the rate of $15 per.
