Tent repair?

Anybody know of a good local place for a tent repair? We have a CLAM shelter we take camping with us. Camping at Bear Creek in April a wind came along and ripped all 6 grommets right off the tent. I still have them, just need to have them sewed back on.

I did find a place called "Stitchlines" but their reviews are horrible so I'm going to stay away from them (the fact that they're only open to the public 3 days a week for 2 hours a day is a red flag for me - that says "half assed operation" to me. If you're not going to be opened business hours, you're not a business, you're a hobby.)

I have to point out that some places only are open to the public for certain hours so they can get work, repair, fabrication etc. done.

Then hire someone to deal with customers while the work gets done maybe?

Seriously, Stitchlines is literally open 6 hours a week, Wed through Friday from 11:00 am to 1:00 PM. Who the hell do they think their customers are? Obviously people who don't work regular 9 to 5 jobs.

As for business vs. hobby, I find it really hard to believe that a business that is open to the public 6 hours/week is generating enough money to support anyone's living.

Either they have contract customers (in which case the public business is a sideline) or it's a hobby business and they don't have a reputation to protect or an incentive to please customers.

I should point out it's not just the hours that put me off Stitchlines. They have horrible customer reviews. Most generally agree that the quality of their work is very good, the problem is that the shop is so disorganized that even a simple repair takes months.

I'm sure most of us have, at some time or another, had a similar experience with a LGS or a gunsmith who promised to have a job done, only to be put off by excuse after excuse after excuse. That's the experience I'm trying to avoid here.

I understand being frustrated, but it is not like they have taken your money and not performed, just move along and find some place to get your repair done, don't waste so much energy in getting angry with a company you won't spend money with.

Be prepared to pay as much as a new tent though.. You are paying for labor. But who knows, you might get lucky.

Use ANYONE other than Ripstop-Repair!

If you call the Patagonia shop in Boulder (720-479-2387 (tel:+1-720-479-2387) ) they have a list of local places they use for customer items that come in for repair. Just avoid Ripstop Repair at all costs.

If it's a canvas tent call Paul's Canvas. They did a repair at reasonable price for me, got it done in less than a week and charged what I thought was a fair price. They are located just north of the Merchandise Mart.

They do lots of canvas for boats and outdoor gear so they might be a bit busy this time of year.

The lady at Stitchlines is very nice. She did quality work on a hiking pack that I had that needed a new zipper. I was very pleased with the work and would return again.

She was swamped with work when I went in and it was a three week wait, so that may be the reason for the limited hours. She just may be open those hours to accept orders, handle concerns, but spends the rest of her time actually working on stuff to get it done.
