View Full Version : Darn evil bunnies

I know there’s a thread around here about this but I couldn’t find it.

I have a family of cute little fluffy bunnies that have made their home in my yard and are tearing up my lawn.

I want them gone.

My preferred method would be to issue them some sort of polite eviction notice and just have them pack their stuff and leave.

If I have no other option I am prepared to go all medieval on them if necessary.

Maybe someone with better search skills could point me to the other thread about bunny problems?

Or just give me advice.

I was thinking maybe fox urine might spook them enough to make them leave?

Or maybe I should borrow someone’s rabbit hating dog for a few days?

Put a sign in your neighbor's yard that says "FREE CARROTS!". They'll be gone in a flash.

How do you get the fox to pee on the bunnies?

My new pup loves hunting/chasing bunnies, but so far has only caught 1. Not sure what she was going to do with the dead one, but she dropped it as soon as I told her too. She's gotten a mouth full of bunny fur a few other times. To her disappointment, the bunnies and squirrels have vacated the back yard, but a group of bunnies has moved into the front yard under some bushes.

A pcp airgun would work well

Watch your pups if they kill/eat one. Little bastards are filled with parasites and other bugs that are very unhealthy for our pets. My dog is slowing down and can’t catch the rabbits but she still mostly keeps them out of the backyard.

A six-pack ?

Probably a cooler too unless you want to keep running inside every 15 minutes.

A six-pack ?Ray is a pretty good marksman, shouldn't take all evening.

Probably a cooler too unless you want to keep running inside every 15 minutes.Absolutely, cold beer is what separates us from the beasts.

Probably better go buy a small Yeti, wouldn't want Ray to think he was getting off cheap.

How do you get the fox to pee on the bunnies?

If you already have a fox, then there aren't any more bunnies.

If you don't have a fox and have to buy it at the store, then how do they get the foxes to pee in the bottles? Those must be some well trained foxes.

So far the slingshot and six pack idea sounds pretty good.

I honestly don't think I've shot a slingshot since I was a wee lad back in the 70's.

Might take more than a six pack before I can hit one of the rodents.

I think we could get a pool going as to whether I take out more rabbits or windows.

I have a live trap as well if needed.

When we lived in town the slingshot was the best method I found. Especially since I could relax on porch and sip beer while waiting for bunnies to come out for supper.

Never broke any windows but did put a dimple in neighbors chrome bumper with a ricochet off a landscape rock. He was a prick who regularly had visitors who blocked our driveway. I never fessed up to it.

Coyote urine crystals from Ace Hardware ("Shake-Away" is the brand) will clear your yard pretty quickly.
It does not smell nice. Cover your nose and mouth when sprinkling it. And be aware it will clear your yard of everything that can be considered coyote prey.

Hell, they just want a little grass, bunnies are welcome in my front yard. Dogs won't allow them in the back though.

But squirrels - they're persona non grata.....

I use a Gamo .177 pellet rifle.

I turn the lights off, take the screen out of the window, stand back in the dark, and it's bye bye bunny.

But Kazoo has a good point. My bolt .22 is way quieter. I just happen to know that my neighbors will tolerate a pellet rifle better than a .22lr.

I’d go all Boulder on them and write a law that says no bunnies of any kind will be allowed in your yard. Maybe even a sign saying no bunnies. "Somebody needs to do something".

I'm sure it has nothing on the smell of fire ant powder... first brand we used was from the farm co-op, called surrender. I'm not sure if they meant the ants or us. I amused myself by telling my wife when I was out of town to ask for "surrender monkey"... the guy at the co-op played along while laughing to himself. I let him know it was deliberate, and we had a good laugh over it... sorta like blinker fluid.... but smells like death.

Cayenne pepper sprinkled around a few areas in the yard where they hang out. In my case we have a small moss rock wall that they loved. Pepper in a few of the holes and the problem is solved. I think it's a seasonal item at Costco but they had a large container for $6 or so.

I'll take your word for it. I thank my lucky stars that I have never encountered fire ants, and I hope I never will.

Get a HECS suit! Then you can just pick them up and punt then over the fence.

Flame thrower?
Propane torch?
Maybe some side fixings and a crock pot for rabbit stew?

I shot them at my old house at all hours with a pellet gun from the garage. That got easy and I moved up to a blow gun with hunting darts but unfortuantely not that effective but it was funny to see the dart sticking in one of the little bastards a well later when I finally killed it. The ones in the back yard were occasionally taken out with my compound bow.

One of these running some subsonic 22LR hollow points does the trick at our bunny ranch.

We have rabbits coming out of our ears here. And we live on Cottontail Ln. Coincidence?

Hairy the Heeler has his hands full dealing with them. But they don't really bother me.
