Went camping this weekend with our little camper group and one of the members had a pair of these little E-bikes called the Rad Mini:

Anybody know anything about electric (pedal assist) bikes? Anybody have one that they want to rant or rave about?
Just stop in to a Pedego store, they have a number of styles that you can try out and rent to see what works best for you.. They have stores in Boulder, Denver and SouthEast Aurora.

Interested. Thought I'd make my own in down time if I had cash to burn. Watched many YouTube videos. There are some crazy bikes out there, but they get expensive in a hurry when you're taking about full suspension mountain bikes that will do 40+ mph.
I have used a electric bike called the quiet cat and it was pretty awesome. Needed a few gearing upgrades but overall pretty sweet set up.
I also quickly tried and electric bike that was made from a mongoose bike and it was front wheel drive and that thing needed some serious work. Wasn’t very happy with it in the short time I tried it out.

I'm surprised you're admit to even knowing what a bicycle is, let alone riding one.
Road bikes are for douchebags! There, is that better!
And yes I still honk when passing them on a double yellow as required by law!
And yes I think they need to pay registration, road tax, e capable of doing the punblished max speed on the road traveled and follow all the same laws as a powered vehicle!
Now for electric bikes, they can make some money off OHV stickers for these e bikes.
Send a PM to Batteriesnare. He’s got connections in that industry.

The quiet cat is an awesome unit, but a tad pricey for my needs. Built for the outdoors & hunters, nicely thought out.

Which ones have you owned and where did you get them? Still considering this for us. Hard part is where to keep them in the camper. Even folding bikes take up a LOT of space!

I own 2 specialized and one haibike mountain bikes. I will most likely sell one of them next year and get an electric road bike. They were all purchased locally from Bike Source. They seem to be the best place around town to get e bikes and they can service them fairly quickly if anything goes wrong. so far my 3 bikes have been rock solid, despite being heavily used on trails (where they are legally welcome) I have over 1k miles on each bikes after a year.
I am not sure how big your camper is, but I wouldn't store them inside. Ebikes are heavy, and unless they are properly tied, they will move and make damages.... I have an external rack, and this is how I carry mine. One more thing about that: Forget about carrying your ebikes on a roof rack... Way too heavy for that.
Legally, you can ride an ebike here in colorado pretty much anywhere EXCEPT public land, national forest and a dwindling number of other places. regulations are changing fairly quickly and I hope that most restrictions will be lifted soon.
Now the good part: ebikes are fun. This is probably the most fun I had on two wheels, like ever.... It's exercise, it's fun and you will explore more on an ebike than you would on a regular bike.

Thanks for the input. Do you know of places that rent E-bikes? Given the cost, it would be prudent to decide whether we will actually use them before we take the plunge.

Make sense. bikesource will rent you "demo bikes". It's kind of expensive for one day, but cheap for a weekend. If I remember correctly, it 75$ for 1 day, then 50 for the second day and 25 for the third. So, for 150$ you get an ebike for a 3 day weekend. It's enough time to try and enjoy.

Just for the record, I hate you. This forum has already cost me way too much money (eg, frick'in smoker I didn't know I needed, oh so good). I have 6 bikes and adding another would be marital suicide (at least guns are easier to hide....shhhhhh). But I'm no longer the spry youth who rode all those bikes. Giving them up would be admitting to getting old. Not sure I can make that step, plus e-bikes are outdated faster than smart phones.

I hate you too.
Tell the spouse you will sell some of your guns to buy ebikes... she will love the idea. Worked for me. That's why my safe is "almost" empty, but the garage is full!
