I know someone VERY close to the guy who was stabbed in this story:

Suspect Killed in Park County Stabbing, Shooting Identified (https://www.google.com/amp/kdvr.com/2018/06/04/17-year-old-killed-in-park-county-shooting-one-other-wounded/amp/)

Here's a bit more info:
Kid tried to carjack some folks that were camping, believe it or not. Kid runs away after a confrontation. Victim finds an employee of a nearby ranch and tells him about it. Employee calls the cops and starts to search the ranch, which is mostly forest. Employee finds the kid in employees own truck, employee whips out his 44 and orders the kid out. Kid attacks employee, stabbing him badly in a few spots, almost killing him. Employee contact fires into kids gut while they are wrestling, which eventually killed him.

The employee is lucky to be alive, but he's doing well now.

This happened in the damn forest. On the same land that I'll be hunting this year. Sheesh. Bottom line: you just never freaking know. Be prepared.

I'd like to see how it happened. Just got too close to start, or just didn't want to pull the trigger on a kid even though he's charging. It's irrational but I'm more scared of someone with a knife than a handgun almost.

Where's this 17 year old's pre-puberty school pics?

17 ain't a kid. It's a young man.

"Alexander James Burger, beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend; attempted murderer and car jacker passed away June 3, 2018. Alex just completed his junior year at Wheat Ridge High School. He was very athletic, loved sports, and was a member of many sports teams; especially the car jacking and knife fighting teams. Alex was a child of God with a generous heart of gold and a kind soul who loved everyone he met; he especially loved their property and to make it his. He had a bright smile that would light up a room, loved to laugh and loved a good dessert; he finally got his just desserts. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him; But not those he tried to rob and murder. Alex’s philosophy was that there is no need to worry about it; that was yesterday and today is today --Today is always a good day to die by someone defending themselves from attempted murder. Once a Farmer always a Farmer, even in Heaven, Go Alex! Don't be so sure Alex is in Heaven. He died trying to murder a man after attempting to steal a vehicle. Alex is probably in Hell."

Bolded my additions.

This happened real close to the Buffalo Creek Rifle Club. I drive by there all the time and there is only one campsite I know of in the area. I'm wondering if this is where it all went down.

I would like to say that I am surprised by what occurred but I am not surprised.

This is the perfect example of why being armed in the forest is always a good idea.

I guess thugs in the forest act just like thugs in the city, even thugs that played lacrosse. His obit is ironic on many fronts given the events leading to his death.

Good PSA in this story, as we've frequently discussed. Imagine how differently this would be if not for the .44MAG.

You gotta be careful out in the wilds. Last year someone dumped a body right next to my mining claim near Texas Creek on the Arkansas river. There is NO cell service in that area due to terrain. I'm not even sure LE has radio there.

One of our local LE was shot at, on two separate occasions, in the forest last year.

I’m sure he is asking about when he is portrayed in the media as Trayvon was using a 12 - 13 year old innocent child.

it needed filled out so...

Really. Sounds like he's a victim of gun violence.

This age of ignoring the facts and letting feelings rule is driving me bananas. Is not ignoring the reason he was a "victim" a metal illness? I wasn't there, so maybe I'm missing something.

Don't you just love it how the modern media portrays the unsuccessful perpetrators as "the shooting victims", or "the gunshot victims"?

The link in your first post has a section to leave a comment about the deceased. My link was that page.
