View Full Version : Dog needs a forever home

My wife and I took a pup in tonight that was in a bad way. Poor guy was on a 6’ chain, on concrete. He was left outside all the time in heat, rain, and even the recent hailstorm, no shelter, eating occasional tortillas and beans. A good samaritan neighbor was able to convince the owner to relinquish the dog to her, and my wife and I agreed to foster him until we could find him a forever home.
He’s probably around 3-4, guessing 75-80lbs. Looks like a lab mix of sorts. He’s skittish around people, but not aggressive - he lets me pick him up and carry him. He really lights up around other dogs, started wagging and interacting with our two dogs right off the bat. And he’s not cat aggressive - our cat walked right up to him and sniffed him head to toe, and he didn’t eat her. Poor guy will need some work to learn to trust people, but you can tell he’s a really good dog. He hasn’t peed on anything inside, is being a gentleman.
If anybody has room for a new soul, give me a holler. This guy has earned a break. We are already at the “tail limit” for Edgewater, or we’d just keep him. We’ll get him neutered and all his shots.
If anybody has an idea for a name, shout it out.

The white guy, not my Rottie.

(Not sure why it’s loading sideways)
Looks like a lab/rhino mix.

I think this is the first time he’s been given a pillow. He’s figuring it out.

I have someone looking for a dog, but don't expect this is something that will pique their interest. I've passed this along anyway, just in case.

He loves other dogs so much, and has suffered so much isolation so far, that I think he’d be best in a home with another dog.

If he’s still here when you’re watching the kids, you’ll meet him!

Poor doggie, I hope things work out good for him and all concerned. I wish I could have a big ol' herd of 'em.
Very cool of you to take him like his and find him a home.

That could be trouble......the good kind but trouble none the less lol
This story really fucks me up. I am a 100% owner and can't do foster care.
I committed to taking a friend's, older/near the end, smaller dog. He would probably like a companion but can't be sure. On top, I inherited a cat two years ago. She accommodates dogs but is not 100% around them.
I'm in your area this weekend (Fri-Sun). I'd love to take a look at him. PM me, please.
P.S. Thanks for caring enough to taking the dog in.

Good looking pup, I will run it by the misses but we have 3 dogs and 2 cats already so I'm not optimistic. Regardless I will keep my eyes and ears open for ya.

I don't know, man. He's looking pretty happy right where he is!

Good for you and the neighbor who originally cared enough to intervene. Special people.

Hope that pup gets a good new home. I wish I could take him in but my lifestyle is just unfair to dogs.

Do you still have this pup? I'll show pics to my wife later today. We're looking for lab mix dogs (2). He looks like a bruiser!

He might look like a bruiser, but he’s a softy. He’s already starting to come out of his shell a little, exploring the yard and house. He’s still timid, but let’s me carry him around. Having more than 6’ to move takes some getting used to. He was pretty restless last night, so we put a kennel down, and he loves it, feels secure I think, and slept all night. I really think this guy should go to a home with another dog, but that won’t be a deal-breaker if it’s the right fit. - he just loves every dog he meets, more than people. (I imagine because dogs never abused him). He put his belly up for me today, and didn’t even flinch when I kissed him on the head.
Thanks for all the interest. I’ll be getting him neutered and vaccinated soon, and I’ll include the kennel/crate when he gets adopted. Keep sending PMs if interested.

I'd take him if my wife's schedule and mine weren't so crazy. It wouldn't be fair to him.

Sweet! Beagle?
Yup. Nine months old. She just discovered bunnies and her life will never be the same.

Success!! “Howie” went to his forever home today with an awesome couple and their super-cool lady dog, who is really pulling him out of his shell. They came and visited him 4 times over the past week (today brought their dog), and it’s a great fit. He’s running, smiling and playing - something I’m not sure he ever did before. I think it finally clicked that his time on a chain is over, and he’s celebrating. Thanks to all who expressed interest.
