Came across this one and thought it merited discussion here (no I'm not interested in buying this one, so if someone else here wants to jump on it, go right ahead).

The Gun Cleaners - $70000 (4211 Centennial Blvd) Business for Sale - The Gun Cleaners of Colorado Springs. Business includes all equipment, training and remaining lease. Owner will train in the proper care and all aspects of firearm cleaning using custom ultrasonic equipment.

My thinking is that its a business that would do better in a larger, more urban city where having a place to clean your gun(s) is more difficult. I'm also not sure if there's any legal complications here in CO with the BGC law (but he's been around a while so probably not).

I'd say just get an FFL...no different than a gunsmith. That should solve any problems.

Sounds like it might be feasible. No inventory to maintain. Just the stuff needed for cleaning. Overhead should be minimal depending on the lease/building and insurance.

Are there really enough lazy or uninterested gun owners out there who would pay sufficiently to keep a business like this open? I know I sure wouldn’t. I see this as only being a feasible business if provided as an optional add on service on top of something else.

I could see this as a service for a police department or military base, expect that I assume that police departments employ an armorer and the military has an abundance of free labor.

I'm qualified to run an AP brush! Wonder what the financials are like?

So expect to clean taco shells out of sidearms all day?

You ever try to get your rifle turned into an armorer after the range or field problem who is single or does not want to go home to his wife?

When I owned my little shop I probably cleaned, on average, 10 - 20 guns per week for people. Usually one guy would bring in 5 or 6...less often was the customer with just one gun to clean. I charged $25 for handguns and $35 for rifles. Kept the lights on for more than a couple of months. I never advertised it as a service. So, yeah...plenty of people will pay for that service.

ETA: I didn't have fancy ultrasonic cleaners. I did it the old fashioned way.

I worked on a gun from the Springs last year that had just come back from an ultrasonic cleaning place. It didn't run anymore. Entire gun went into a cleaning tank, came out and entire gun dipped into an oil container. Hung to drip clean. Needless to say, I found the problem.... I charged him $75 to clean the cleaning. SMDH

See here at Mazins we actually believe in field stripping, cleaning & lube in 3 seperate parts not all in one step [ROFL1]

Not a bad idea Bailey, a little hoppies flavored salsa......

This surprises me, but I guess there are lots of people that will pay for things/services that I don't understand...

People pay ~$10 for 10lbs (usually ~$1/lbs but 10lbs minimum) for their laundry. So, I assume people will pay for this service, but not as high demand as laundry service(s).

Yes, yes I have...and it sucks. I know a guy who would absolutely take advantage of this service. He's always trying to con me into cleaning his blasters and I tell him to go fly a kite.

I love tacos and the smell of Hoppe's #9.

That would be very dangerous for me. I'm glad it's not too local.

I used to loan my rifles out to the Boy Scouts and to BigBear's annual shoot but was particular in that I didn't trust the Scouts to clean the rifles to my specifications. Cleaning those rifles could be an all-day or even weekend-long affair. I could see doing this once a year to get ultrasonic cleaning and writing it off as a charitable expense for loaning out my firearms.

I'm sure people are willing to pay for this service, but I have a hard time believing you could make this one service into a full time gig that pays anything close to a decent wage.

I believe that the local indoor ranges here offer cleaning as one of their services along with gun smithing, training, etc.

In all seriousness, if the current owners couldn't make a go of it, why would a buyer think they could?

This thread made me wonder, do any of you guys put your suppressors and/or baffles in a sonic cleaner?

Justin

If it's an aluminum can evidently putting it in a sonic cleaner is no bueno.

Better check with your tax advisor under the new regulations
