Palmetto AK?

What is the consensus on the Palmetto AKs? Are they on par with the ARs? Worth it or stay away? What would you recommend instead in the same price range?

Buy a WASR instead, a real combloc rifle built in a combloc plant.

If you buy from Atlantic Forearms they will visually inspect them for issues like sights that are canted out of spec and so on and if you do have a problem they have awesome customer service reviews.

You can get a PSA Blem AK47 for $500 with free shipping...

I've handled and shot both. The PSA AK47 is good for the money. If you want a plinker and you're just getting into AK's, it's a good start. PSA has a good warranty so if anything goes wrong, they'll fix it.

The WASR's are good as well with the newer production ones having better QC. You typically won't find canted sights on any new WASR.

It comes down to what you want...a US made AK "variant", or a Romanian parts built AK that is pretty true to the original design...

It's a good deal considering the magpul furniture is about $220...so you're really getting an AK for $280...
