But, but..... The fireworks stand in Cheyenne says on TV that I will be the hero of the party when I bring the fireworks.

Anybody notice the dumb fuck signs in Thornton?
"Be kind to vets and pets, no fireworks" or something to that effect.
I work with some pretty hardcore combat vets and they all love fireworks, the bigger the better.

The pussification continues.

A vet helped get that done. I was asked to be on that committee, but honestly I just didn't feel like dealing with a bunch of pussy whiners. Maybe I should have. The results of that committee's efforts are embarrassing.

I was reading the a post from jeffco on Nextdoor about fire ban... the spokesperson said the ban even applies to charcoal grills.... does that apply even on my deck in my backyard? Or are they just talking about grills in parks, etc.?

Fire bans usually include parks. I think it has to be a fire that you can instantly turn "off" like propane; so it could apply to your backyard. I of course don't know for sure.

The vets and pets thing irritates me too. Mostly the pets part.

I get it that your dog/cat whatever may freak out and start running into walls or some shit when they hear fireworks. I'm willing to live with that to celebrate freedom. And yeah, I like to celebrate my freedom by watching loud and shinny explosions. This is America!! Where men are men! (Or used to be apparently).

Get your dog some doggie ear muffs and give it some of your prescription anti anxiety drugs and suck it up Sally. Or better yet, teach your dog to be an American too by training him to hunt and not be gun shy. That way Mr Ruffs would enjoy going outside to watch some glorious displays of freedom too.

That all said, I understand the fire bans but am disappointed by them. I was hoping it would stay stage 1 ban because city firework displays would still be allowed.

Fort Carson seems to have no problem with fireworks displays. Plenty of recent combat vets on post. Just sayin'.

I think a lot of the complaints are that people light off fireworks for several months. That definitely is true in my area as they start on Memorial Day, and pretty much go through Labor Day, then again for a few days surrounding New Years.

My plan for that committee was to suggest a model closer to Nebraska where big awesome fireworks are allowed on the third and Fourth, with a strict 11pm curfew. When you give people a legal avenue to enjoy fireworks, they do a much better job of firing them within the allowed time. If you make fireworks illegal at all times, then it doesn't really matter when you fire them off and people tend to just do it whenever they feel. My vet neighbor says he can handle planned fireworks just fine because he goes into his back room and cranks up the tv. It's the random mortars in the middle of the night, or especially if he is out working in the yard on any given day that bother him. Like pretty much every other example that I can think of, zero tolerance pretty much sucks in every instance.

All that said, Colorado is much more dry than Nebraska, so there is that element.

Yeah, don't even get me started on the whole "veteran-as-victim" meme that seems to have infested some elements of pop culture....[Rant1]

I can't honestly call myself a "combat vet" although I served in a couple of different war zones (ironically, the only time I ever got shot at it wasn't even considered a "combat deployment.") But the notion that veterans are fragile victims cowering in terror at the sound of fireworks pisses me off to no end. My dad saw a fair amount of combat in Vietnam and I don't recall that he ever had an issue with fireworks.

But now there are apparently people who sell (or give away?) yard signs "warning" that the resident is a "combat vet" and asking people not to set off fireworks. Looks more like attention-whoring to me.[Dunno]

Denver says the same thing about fireworks scaring the liberals and being to pro American to be tolerated. Threats of fines up to $999 if caught. But they said vets and pets as an excuse.
