An AK sized rifle that is powerful enough to set someone on fire at 800 meters.

“Non-lethal” because it only sets people on fire. Lol.

Nobody needs that for deer hunting

When can we expect the legislation?

This. Any appreciable power will require either a wall plug or a sizeable battery pack. Either of those will hamper tactical efficiency. 1000 2-second shots? Sounds more like something to torment a cat.

Is a laser rifle still a firearm? Have to change the name from ATF to ATF&L

How long for a battery recharge?

izzy

The article doesn't really get into details about how long it takes to charge.

Now that I think about it this isn't really a rifle. I wouldn't guess it actually has a barrel. Also it'd be BAFTEL.

Quick, some EE research how to cull this down to 10 shots and fit on a DJI

I wonder how long before somebody crashes an airliner with one. Just blind the pilots.

Maybe I'm just overly skeptical, but I think it's a farce... Chinese propaganda?

Methinks that, in the vein of "more government is better", if the U.S. ever got these they'd create a new agency to cover them and call it Washington Power & Light.

Whaaat? The Chinese would never do that....would they? [/sarcasm]

Used to be you had to use a longbow with a fire arrow to commit arson from afar.

Duman

Well, if they want to blind people, that's easy to do.

Lighting a fire is a different level entirely.

It's a load of crap.

I just came here to check on Irv. A black dodge caravan was in an accident of 34 and cr 49 and the driver died. Thankfully Irv is here posting, so not him.

Thanks buddy. I was even up North today too. Now I'll be on edge for the rest of the week.

1000 2 second shots per charge at 6.6lbs? Bullshit.

Imagine how many forest fires there could be if yahoos could get their hands on something like this?

Chances of two going down are tiny. If anything you’re probably more safe for a while. ;)

Lasers are already regulated under the FDA, so we’d merge both and call it the BATFEFDA. Sounds like a winged bird like flying nocturnal creature that digs Greek cuisine.

Leaning toward bullshit on this one as well, but even if real it still gets a solid 'meh...'

The setting on fire is hard to buy. You could hold a butane torch on a person for two minutes at point blank and they wouldn't catch fire.

It's possible to set clothes on fire if the clothing is flammable according to the article.

Yeah, if you wash the clothes in kerosene.

Just wait till the first hot air balloon death is traced back to a laser rifle.

No body needs a bolt action rifle when self loading rifles are far better for almost conceivable use. No body needs a pistol when a sawed off shotgun would be better too.

There isn't laser rifles nor will there ever be.

While I don't disagree it's still fun to take the distractions from day to day once in a while.

What's the break-in process for a laser rifle? Is it like regular rifles where you fire 1 shot, nick the bore with excessive cleaning, and then fire another shot to smooth the nick from previous cleaning, and then repeat until you remember to simply apply fundamentals and declare your break-in a success?

Anyone remember username Nobody, and his "how to break in a rifle" parody videos on SnipersHide? He used to piss off people so bad by snubbing his nose at internet lore and proving it all wrong. Loved that guy.

I don't know what the hell it is with this link, but my browser tries to download a .swf file when I click on it.

I would like to see the video, but I don't even have search terms to find it.
