View Full Version : Basalt fire
Started by two idiots shooting tracer rounds at the gun range. Ignored the fire ban. Hope they pay the entire cost of firefighting and spend some time in jail.

Idiots! Gives all responsible shooters a bad name. This happened in Park County last year at the outdoor range. Burned grass. No trees to burn fortunately. This along with trashing shooting areas is a black eye to all of us. Ugh![emoji107]🤮

With all the media coverage of the fire danger in the state you'd think common sense would take hold. Makes me worry more about tonight and the idiots with fireworks

It was very smoky in Pueblo yesterday. I have been watching fire tankers fly over the house all week. The smoke was so bad it triggered a headache for me. I'm just going to stick around the house, I got the scraper blade on the tractor for any brush fire.

"One evacuee, Tom Mcjill, said he had to leave a lot of valuables in his apartment when he was asked to leave by Basalt Police officers.
Mcjill said a lot of his possessions are still in the apartment, including artwork and stuff that can’t be replaced.
McJill said his apartment is at the top of a drive just over the hill from where the fire is burning, and that police came by to say the evacuation was mandatory for his neighborhood."
Uh, What?
Where is that address, again?

With the yearly fire danger, it seems like some entrepreneurs would open a few more ranges in the hills. How could libs say no to that? "It'll preserve our forests!"

“I don’t want anyone to jump to conclusions … but when they have a fireworks ban, they should probably ban target shooting,” he said.
As I have long said, we are our own worst enemy.
"We" are smart enough not to shoot tracers in an area at risk of fire.
This is a developed range not just somewhere in the woods. You can zoom in and see it on this fire map. Yes, even at a developed range you can get bounces or ricochets, if you have ever seen a tracer shoot at night it's amazing where these things can go. I have a couple friends in Basalt that are within a couple hundreds yards of the fire.

Why is the cause listed for the 2,700 acre fire but not the 95,739 Spring Fire which has destroyed 132 homes and is the largest?
Why is the cause listed for the 2,700 acre fire but not the 95,739 Spring Fire which has destroyed 132 homes and is the largest? I'll take a stab at it. Probably because someone doesn't want to shed light on an "illegal" doing anything "wrong" because don't ya know, they are all welcome with open arms to this great nation and none of them do any criminal harm.
That's just a guess[Shock]

At least the shooters didn't cut and run, stayed there and admitted responsibility.

Doesn't matter the asshats that are shooting tracers during one of the driest years in a long time should get what they have coming to them. There is no excuse for what they did. We who use firearms all know what can happen when we use any ammo and all know what happens if you use tracers.
