"there are 8,304 active concealed carry weapons permit holders in the county, up from 7,752 in 2016."

Likely another surge of applications due to all this AR ban nonsense. Shannon Watts, now a Boulder resident, and her Moms group are great for gun sales.

There's a lot in that article that illustrates the poor state of management and politics in both Boulder city and the county. First of note is that the Boulder Peoples Daily can't resist crowing about the regressive leftist victory in imposing the stupid "assault weapons ban", complete with the image of nincompoop moms hugging one another. But the surge in applications really began as Hillary was slated to win the presidency, well before Bolder Boulder ban effort by the incompetent city council commissars. Moreover, the county SO issues permits county wide where the larger population lives outside the city of Boulder and to people unaffected by the Boulder ban. While Undersheriff Sloan is correct in noting the possible influences in the surge of pistol carry permit applications, it is the reporter's bias which attributes to the city "assault weapons ban". Propaganda.

When I recently renewed my permit and transferred from Mesa to Boulder County the officer in charge of permits noted the surge was due in part to an influx of new county residents. It's interesting to read Tommy Sloan's comments about under staffing that forced the sheriff to reduce permit application duties. This, in a county which operates grossly bloated and inefficient IT, human services and open space departments, but won't allocate funds to the sheriff for investigations and to keep criminals locked up.

It's good to know that there are so many of you out there. I think that's the case in a lot of places.

In the late 90s, while living in Telluride, I worked in a store that made copies and did other office type work like laminating. This was before the law regarding the CCW permit process was changed to what we have now. Then, permits were issued by the local sheriff. There was a regular pattern- People would stop in and ask us to warm up the laminating machine. A few minutes later they'd be back with a freshly printed card and photo for us to laminate. Who'd a thought there were so many CCW permits in that little hippie town....

My nephew just got his permit in boulder county, took 3 weeks to get an appointment to apply for it, then 8 weeks to get it after that. I suppose he should feel lucky that they did not take the full 90 days to issue it after the application.

Weld was drop off application and get fingerprinted, then 21 days till they mailed mine out, no appointment necessary.

An appointment? I didn't need an appointment. The sheriff's office takes applications and prints during specific times on specific days, all you do is walk in on one of those days.

The lady that runs Boulder County's CCW program is very polite and helpful. You can hate on Boulder for some things, but the CCW permit system is not one of them. Processing stuff Jeffco was way more of a cluster than Boulder.
