Another problem with reloading (things aren't going well this year). I bought my wife a Savage .308 for hunting season this year. I had some fired Lake City stamped military 7.62 brass, that I resized and loaded to work up a load. I also had some .308 brass, which I also sized and loaded. During the initial sizing, the military brass was much harder to size than the .308, but nothing got stuck (I also trimmed the cases down to .308 Win specs).

I took them both out to the range and settled on a good load. The military brass had slightly higher velocities, which I assume are from the slightly smaller case volume.

When I went to resize them again, there were no problems with the .308 cases...very smooth. When I got to the 7.62 cases, they were again much harder, but after about 5, I got a stuck case. I thought maybe I just didn't get it lubed enough. After hammering it out, I lubed another one up real good and tried it again. It got stuck. So, I tried another .308 case...no problems. I tried yet another 7.62 case, and it got stuck as well.

I realize there are slight differences in the neck length and case volume of the military brass, but these have been trimmed and fired in a .308 Win. I tried searching the internet, and it doesn't appear anyone even sells 7.62X51mm or .308 Nato dies, they are all marked .308 Win/7.62X51mm. The dies I am using are brand new Lee full length dies.

Any ideas?

I will admit it is strange on the second time around. Most issues happen and are noticed the first time because the brass was MG fired and is so out of spec that bringing it back can be impossible. Can I ask what year the LC was?

I have seen the round and round garbage about the difference between the 7.62X51 VS .308 for many years. For all practical purposes there is no difference. For 98% of the bolt guns out there they will shoot 7.62X51 just fine. .308 ammo shoots just fine out of 7.62X51 guns fine as well.

I am going to sleep on this because this is one I have never seen or even heard about. Are ya in the springs by chance?

The cases are the same on the outside, it is the chambers that are different.

If you use Imperial Die Sizing Wax your life will be much easier.
