I am moving to Georgia this coming Friday and unfortunately cannot take my dogs. It's killing me but I need loving homes for them.

Zoey is a senior dog and I am the most worried about getting her a home. She is about 10 years old. She doesn't move as well so stairs are not good for her.
She is housebroken
Loves Everyone. Seriously she is the kindest most gentle dog there is. A true sweetheart
Good with kids, cats, and other dogs as well

Please, please, please someone give her a home

Vader is a Black Lab mix. Mixed with what I don't know. He is 4 years old now and still very active.
Good with kids, cats, and other dogs

I wish I was in a position to help.

Lots of changes going on in your life right now, I hope this move is a good thing.

You will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Or foster them until a new home can be found. Please

Any chance you have a crate for the lab, or were they mainly outdoor dogs? Indoor?

I might be able to take the lab for a while and look for a good home. The older one, I'm not avoiding for age per se, but my very active 110lb shepherd I am pretty sure would accidentally hurt it. He tends to bowl over even other large dogs as he's blind in one eye and just walks all over everything.

Zoey is perfectly content sitting under a shade tree and watching the world go by. She doesn't even need a fence

Fenced yard, standard height, though we have to kennel our shep since he can leap the 6 footer.

I believe you that Zoey would be pretty innocous. It's just Hank the big idiot is very in any new dogs face. On a few walks we've recovered lost dogs and he's basically trying to stand on them, probably if he hadn't been fixed I bet he'd be humping. Wife has a elderly maltese that lives w/ her parents because she doesn't want to risk it's bad back etc getting bothered by an accident w/ hank. (He tries to kill us on the stairs even.)

I might see if my parents could take for a while. Good home for it, mom wanted another dog, father no, but short term might be an option.

I believe Vader found a place. Zoey still needs a home.

If anyone is looking to keep Vader, I'd still say speak up, as I'll likely just be fostering for a while, during the time it takes to find a good home better than what a shelter would do. Course may just turn into falling in love but who knows.

Zoey would make a great seeing eye companion for your 1/2 "vision challenged" one.

I am a little surprised there hasn't been as much interested parties as the last guy that had to go up for adoption.

Agreed! I’ve spent time with both of these dogs - they’re good dogs. Fitz- thanks for stepping up for Vader. Whether you find him another home or keep him yourself, I’m sure he’ll be fine. Zoey is a sweet old girl who deserves a comfortable place to finish her days. Maybe someone could post about her on Facebook? (I don’t have an account).

If anyone is considering Zoey I will say this. She may be older but she isn't on her death bed yet. She was recently seen at Wheatridge Animal Hospital. She does possibly have a thyroid condition but that hasn't been confirmed. She is stiff in the back legs, but still has some years left.

Zoey and her new pack (Calvin and Tango). Looks like she’s already settling in. Couldn’t let this old girl face uncertainty (certainly not a shelter), so here we are. Our guys are used to welcoming in fosters, already making her feel welcome.

A sad update. After almost 2 years with us, Zoey crossed the Rainbow Bridge today. Her arthritis worsened and worsened to the point that she couldn't stand, let alone walk, anymore. We had a lovely vet from Caring Pathways come to the house today, and she did such a beautiful job helping Zoey rest peacefully. Calvin, Curbee and Coco were on the blanket with her the entire time. When she was gone, Calvin sniffed her, then literally hung his head and went inside to lay down (he has never once gone in the house if I'm outside).

Although only with us 2 years, she quickly became family, and was best friends with my wife. She was an incredibly wise old soul, and taught us much about stoicism and grace. No matter her pain, she was always bright-eyed and wagging. She was the epitome of a peaceful being.

I really thought we were going to lose her sooner, but for the last 3 months, we've had a vet coming to the house twice a week doing acupuncture, laser treatments, e-stim, and other pain-management modalities, as well as extensive prescription combinations. This absolutely extended her life, with quality. Happy to PM info if anyone has a need. Zoey also wore a harness with handles that allowed us to assist her (and then fully carry her).

Zoey, you were an amazing girl. You will be missed, and remembered.

Of course, I notified Sparky before posting this.

OK...I got all teary eyed and still have a big lump in my throat. I knew as soon as I saw this thread revived what the news would be.

Jeff... that was probably the best tribute to a little pup I think I've ever seen. As blessed as you and your family were with Zoey's presence in your life these past couple of years she was blessed even more so. I am in awe of your generosity and willingness to care for a needy animal to the extent you did with Zoey.

Thanks for the update, as sad as it was. Thanks for caring for that sweet, old soul the way you did. I'm glad Zoey is no longer struggling but I grieve your loss with you.

Fentonite, you have my respect for fostering older dogs. Rewarding but difficult given their shorter time with you. My cousin adopts older labs and all have been wonderful.

I don't think i could do it. Too many goodbyes.

Jeff

You have her a loving home when you did not have to and great cost to you financially and emotionally. That speaks volumes about your character. I have done the same myself in the past, and I know how hard it is loose them after such a short time. But know that your compassion and generosity are a credit to you.
