Gun Safe Door Fire Resistant Backer Board

Has anyone ever upgraded or simply replaced your safe interior door fire resistant board. I have one that was stepped on while door was off and is put a pretty good crease in it. Its only 1/2 inch thick material and I'm thinking maybe some stuff at Lowes or Home Depot may be all I need. Durock Cement Board from Home Depot. Is it just standard sheetrock and is standard sheetrock fire resistant in comparison with what it used within gun safes? I like the 3/4 " thought there.

Use 3/4. In a home it needs to be 5/8 to be fire rated. And make sure the water stays out.

1/2 inch drywall is fire rated at 30 minutes
5/8 inch Type X drywall has fiberglass mixed in and is fire rated at 1 hour.

For a job as small as a gun safe, it is worth it to go with the Type X

Fire ratings are a bit of a sham for somebody that lives in an urban environment. Face it, if you have a fire the likelihood of the FD taking more than 1/2 hour to respond are virtually nil.
Spend your money upgrading seals to prevent water intrusion and increasing anti theft possibilities i.e. reinforce door frames etc.

If your out in the boonies where it would take the FD an hour to respond then upgrading the fire rating is worthwhile.
