I was very lucky to find this Browning absolutely free listed on Facebook here in the Springs just this past Wednesday. Went with a few friends Saturday morning and picked it up. The catch was it was in a basement and also the owner had forgotten the combination but it does have the dial lock & key. If I can get an override code that will be a plus or I'll buy a new one online and swap it out. I just wanted to share this as it’s not every day you get a free Browning safe. Photo's even though they are small will not upload here.

Call Opie

I second this. He's a great guy to work with.

Now that you've posted this, you HAVE to post a picture of what's inside when you open it. Or better yet, stream some live video. It will be like Geraldo Rivera and Al Capone's safe all over again! [ROFL1]

LOL.... BTW... I do have it home and I guess I was not clear on that. Four men and some dunnage and we pulled it right up the stairs and the landing. Was a bit of a pain but only 2.5 hours got her home. I'm good to go on delivery and now focused on the sheetrock in the door that was cracked just a little.

If that is S&G lock it is easy to reset the combination. There is a tool/key that you stick in the back of the lock that lets you dial in the new combination. If you have the key and know what you are doing it only takes a couple of minutes to reset it. You need access to the back of the lock so when you have that liner piece off to replace it would be a good time to do it.

There is a serial number on the back of a lot of safes. I don't if it would be needed for anything but now would be the time to write it down somewhere. Maybe on the inside of the safe.

Nice score! Let me know if we can help with either resetting a new combo or setting you up with a complete new lock.

He still needs the current combo to change to a new combo without opening the lock body...which sounds like he doesn't have a combo for it.

SAnd, I appreciate that very much. Was looking around online at digital and I don't really care to upgrade to digital and the spin dial does it for me. I'll be on this if I can't get it resolved. I just had Deputy leave here from Shefiff's Office and did a Serial Number Verification and a report form so I can now contact Browning and see if they will give me an override code. If not your suggestion will be my next path. Thanks

The Securam lock they Opie sells is outstanding! Digital with dial backup. He installed one for me and I’m really happy with it. I got it when my S&G dial lock failed.

I'm totally impressed by Colorado Springs Sheriff's Officer M. Reed that responded today to verify ownership of my gun safe to satisfy Browning's requirement. She came out, identified serial numbers and put together paperwork based off a phone call to previous owner and my conversation that I am now indeed the owner of said safe. Afterwards, realizing Browning requires this documentation to be sent to their HQ's via a fax only method with letterhead showing it came from the local Sheriff's Office. She simply was the most professional officer I have ever met in my life. She even called back to let me know when the fax actually was successfully transmitted! Amazing! I'm on hold for 24 hours before I call and request the override code. Hope this ends as well as today process/help from the Sheriff's Office. Great process if this works out and not a penny spent and that is always a plus. If this does not end well for what ever reason... I'm giving Opie a shot at selling me a new digital unit.

Opie, I just now received the override code from Browning. Its a four digit code and I'm sure you already know this.. I can't change it from this four digit code after all this. Still need a lock smith to change my code. Is the process something with the tool that SAnd mention and I can do or must I have a smith "YOU" come to make this change for me? Unless I want to stick with a four digit and I guess I could.

You still need the original combo to change it with the tool. Otherwise you have to open the lock body and manually adjust it.

I'd suggest just having Opie take care of it.

He's good to go and will do it right.

Lock bodies aren't too terribly difficult, but you run the risk of something slipping and then you have to pay to have the safe drilled to get back in, which will be more than having Opie reset the combo.

Was it the:
Colorado Springs Police Department
or
El Paso County Sheriff's Office

Sorry about that El Paso County Sheriff's Office. Outstanding Officer/individual that done all this work.

That’s great to hear about the officer who helped you. I’d recommend you return the favor and send the sheriff a note commending his deputy’s professionalism and helpful attitude - always a nice gesture.

Did you get a date? [Coffee]

I'm impressed that you found this great deal via Craigslist. Something valuable for free in exchange for your labor. I'm envious. I buy and sell a lot on Craigslist. I get great deals for things I want and offer great deals for old stuff I no longer need. It's a super resource. Everybody wins.

A date... do you mean like movie and dinner... no! However she was a beautiful lady if that is what you are talking of. I'm still in shock that this worked out for me with a two year old safe. Browning told me today its a 2016 model. I have found that being quick to react to online free stuff will get you free stuff. I'm on a tight budget and I have for the past year buying things for my home that are actually used. Always have to look out for the scams and possible setups but I have had very good luck.
