Hey all of you down in CS, what is this that I am hearing blurbs about people injured & hospitalized, and several animals killed at the Cheyenne Mountain zoo due to the large high capacity hail storms down there ?

There should be a law banning those you know........ [Sarcasm2]

I heard people were injured but that is it so far. Hail was big, tennis ball big.

Got home in time to catch the 5 PM news, it was a vulture & a goose ? that were killed with several other animals injured.
No human fatalities, 8 sent to the hospital as of now. But who knows, getting beaned by a tennis ball sized hail stone could be fatal.

The news clip of the storm was wicked.

How is this possible? Nature is so balanced and harmonious. We humans must have caused this "extreme weather event".

I was out in Flagler working a storm with baseball sized hail and 60-70 mph winds. The farmers were telling me that a little further North one of the guys found a few dead antelope and several smaller things like rabbits and raccoons.

Falcon (east of Colorado Springs) on Highway 24 @ Meridian Rd had grape to golf ball hail around 3pm. Everyone where I work sustained some type of vehicle damage.
On the news it was reported Fountain (south of Colorado Springs)had grapefruit size hail again in less than 30 days!

Yeah it is hail season down here, gladly it missed my neighborhood - we had it bad 2 years ago. Feel sorry for those who hurried to get new cars and roofs just to get hit again.

Van damaged. Was out running errands. Ended up parking under a tree hoping it would deflect as much as possible. Got pretty hammered.

Windshield trashed. Pretty dented on roof etc.

Was about the size of a cue ball and down. A real mix.

Duck and a vulture died, eight people injured, five of them hospitalized. Three hundred cars damaged and not drivable just at the zoo. Horrible.

In the northwest of the city we had half inch of hard rain, thats it.

More of the same tomorrow per the tv weather gal. I'm staying home.

I was thinking the same thing, but In the full report the news reporter stated several times that it was a giraffe statue and not a real one.....

Yup, very damaging hail again... right after we put on the new roof from the last hail storm. Yes, there are dead animals at the Cheynne Mtn. Zoo.

That's what I just heard on Facebook too, a statue. The shape it was in look like it got domed right there.

Took this video while at the archery range. It’s the secon hail storm of the day. The first was the one that smashed my windshield and dented the van. Will post those pics later.

I was at Cave of the Winds. Van a little dented, and I need a new mirror. Friends in from Texas in a 2018 got good and dented too. I didn't know about the last storm. I assumed as much because I saw lots of cars with the hail dents circled on tow trucks and trailers. Assuming the were headed Denver to auction. Lots of them. Also saw more than a few new cars with temp tags that were BEAT. As in no rear windows, and lots of defeated looking drivers.

Did the airport area get hit as bad as ~2 years ago?

Nope. A little hail, but not enough to trash everything on the flight line.

As per usual, Pleasant Valley pretty much untouched (got an inch of rain and maybe some marble sized hail in the mix)

Bad for sure, I worked a storm in KS that was so bad Every piece of glass on the vehicles were broken,
The hail dent in the roof are so bad that they broke the headliner and because the front windshield were broken out it actually put holes in the Dash

Irving

Where, and when, in KS was that one?

I don’t really remember, I know it was after Joplin Missouri tornado, I will look around and see if I can find my notes - You know how it is they all blend together after a while

For sure. I worked a loss six miles from Joplin last year. I wanted to drive through town, but it was already getting dark. It was a house so new that it wasn't even on Google maps yet. No felt. Shingles nailed directly to the decking.

Was it built by Bell Homes ? When I was living in the Olathe / Overland Park area back in the late 80s - Mid 90s, there were moltiple law suits against them for similar shady practices, including slats instead of decking/sub roofs ?

No idea. I'd heard that there were areas of St. Louis where felt wasn't even required by code, but I didn't believe it until I saw one.
