View Full Version : Most famous bands from every state
Came across this article. Seems like there might be room for debate. Who is familiar with every single one?

Surprised on quite a few of them. I had no idea 311 (one of my favorite bands) was from Nebraska, and the Ramones being the most famous from New York surprised me, but upon looking, The Beastie Boys, Steely Dan, or the Wu Tang clan are likely the closest contenders there. Plenty of good bands have come from California, but Metallica was a given, and One Republic surprised me as being the Colorado band of choice, but again, after looking, not much else worthy of picking.
Not familiar with all of them, but i like One Republic as the Colorado choice.
I figure they are going on album sales to judge level of Fame. Isn't The Fray from here? We've got quite a few popular bands in the last two decades it seems like.

Papper?!?!?! Never even heard of them, no idea where the heck they get this from. The only thing I can think of is musicians from Hawaii that are well known tend to be soloists or duos so probably don't qualify as "bands" but I'm sure more people heard the Beamer Brothers' "Honolulu City Lights" or ""Kaliponi Slack Key" than have ever heard of Pepper.

Winger was from CO. Big hair goodness.
Can’t get the article to pull up on my phone but there was a ton of talent from the small corner of southeast Texas where I grew up.
George Jones, ZZ Top, Janis Joplin, Edgar Winter, etc.

Texas has/had a ton of talent as a whole. Can't leave Stevie Ray Vaughan, Meat Loaf, Don Henley, Pantera, etc. out of that list.

The Lumineers are CO based, as others.
NY bands. Billy Joel, Twisted Sister, BLUE OYSTER CULT! .
311 is interesting as i had college kids tell me when 311 came out they were a Racist / White Power band. As 3-11's is KKK in the alphabet. I'm like ???? You have no clue as they're a stoner reggie, hippieish band.
The Flobots, Big Head Todd and the Monsters, and Pretty Lights are all fairly famous acts from Colorado as well.
I remember the whole 311 = racists thing.
Firefall was a Colorado band as well

I couldn't bring myself to click through all of them... those websites that you have to click through slideshows to read something must be after advertising dollars or something.

I got caught in an email chain between the lead guy from flobots and lead guy from the fray (we have the same first name) once. I was in the flobots guy's contact list because I randomly decided to email him and ask a question one time. It was pretty funny actually, the one guy was trying to meet up with the other and getting a very cold shoulder. Cool story bro, right?

Some of us have a different definition of famous than others. I've never heard of most of the bands listed in the original article or a lot of the bands listed in this thread. I don't think a band is "famous" because they're played on a radio station I happen to listen to. I would call them famous when I see others who know about them, especially people who don't listen to the same kind of music I do. I know Blue Oyster Cult, The Clash, LOTS of bands I would never ever listen to -- to me, they're famous precisely because someone who doesn't listen to them knows who they are. I had people from other countries (Sweden, Canada, Scotland, etc.) playing The Lumineers for me while I was in Australia. I think I MAY have heard of OneRepublic once about a month ago.
Then again, this article was on MSN ...
For anyone else that doesn't wanna click backwards from the end.

P.S. I'm sure this is monetized click-bait, but I had to look too.

Who classed Good Charlotte as a band?Have you Googled "famous bands from Maryland"? Not much to choose from, unless you feel that "Double Dagger" or "Dying Fetus" might be more famous than "Good Charlotte".
