View Full Version : Public range between salida and buena vista

Not sure if anyone knows but looking for verification the public range between buena Vista and salida near the landfill is still open and no weird times or days they close down. Wanted to take a buddy up there to shoot but it's been forever since I've been .

Unsure. Last I was there was almost a year ago and they were slowly encroaching on the range with landfill expansion.

Well it was certainly true when I was there last and the 1000 yard targets were gone and a local said they'd removed them due to the landfill expansion.

Perhaps they stopped that.

You were misinformed. Those targets were not on the range property and should not have been there. It might have been ok, but too many Fudds that cannot shoot ruined it for those that can shoot.

It wouldn't be the first time. Glad they're not doing that. Did they put the 1k targets back?

The range is only to 600y. Those target weren't supposed to be there originally. It is a bummer, but 600 at a small target is still good practice for most. They have also tightened up the operation in both length and width a little to keep it safe. If you go please swing buy the shop in Salida and buy something, they put in a lot of support to keep the place up. It a damn nice shop too!

Have a membership now at Royal Gorge Gun Club, where busy = 1-2 other people and we can shoot to over a mile if we want. But I'm glad the BV range is still in operation for those who need a publicly available range.

I was at the range 2-3 weeks ago. Max target is 650. It is the Chaffee County DOW range and you can call the Salida DOW office for any closures but it was not closed 2-3 weeks ago.

I love that range, the rifle is great. Bring a spotter with you and practice moving between targets and distances quickly. Also a shotgun area with mounted throwers, just bring clays.

I went up there and it was a good time. The practical pistol area is kind of nice for quick target acquisition practice. Rifle is good too with the different targets testing drop compensation. It's true it's not out to 1000 yards anymore but out to 600 is fine for most anything. Damn shame it's such a drive.
