Hey guys, was just sitting here and a question just popped in my head and has me somewhat curious. But how much ammo do you think vendors sell at gun shows here in Colorado? I have heard some crazy numbers myself in the past and imagine they are probably close. Just curious though guys.

I admit it's conjecture, and perhaps misaligned with the current market demands, but based on my experience picking up bulk plinking rounds at a few different shows from 2009-2015 (i haven't been back in a while and began reloading my own), i'd venture to guess they sell 100K rounds of mixed calibers over a 2day show.

I used to go to gun shows solely to buy ammo because you could get the best prices there. Then the likes of CTD came along and started selling bulk ammo at discount prices. On top of that the 'big box" stores started selling ammo at discount prices too.

How are gun show prices compared to online and "big box?" I probably haven't been to a gun show in 5 years.

I stopped buying ammo at shows during the first Zero panic and started buying online. I was still paying panic prices but they were weren't as insane.

I still occasionally buy at shops, but usually smaller quantities.

Last time I went to Tanner I saw very little ammo sales. What ammo sales I did see was the remanufactured booths.

I got some Ten-x ammo at Tanner once at what I thought was a good deal at the time. That stuff was complete garbage.

I havent been to a show in 10 years now. I have no patience for the buy now it's gonna be banned soon or that's the last case we have and theres a pallet full behind them. Wally world or online is the cheapest now a days.

Sportsman's Warehouse in Englewood/Sheridan had bricks of .22lr for $25 ($0.05/rnd) which is cheaper than anything I've seen online. I picked up one last time I was there but honestly I think the factories geared up so much during the Great Ammo Panic of 2012 - 2015 that now they have a glut.

Though it's not like I'm short of .22. Hell, I still have a brick I picked up at Jim's Gun & Pawn in Fayette-nam back in the 1990's for $5.25.

( :o I should probably get out and shoot more.)

It's finally coming down.

I'm seeing 22 below $0.04/round online now. Wideners has a case of Federal bulk .22lr for $195 now. Add shipping and it's $22/brick. Plus no tax.

Others are getting darn close. Sign up for the email blasts and wait for the free shipping codes and you'll do even better.

I was about to type that I am not an ammo snob, But after thinking about it, I am.

What changed my mind was a day when my buddy alternated three rounds of whatever I was using and three rounds of CCI Stinger in my .22 revolver. Bang (dull yellow flash with lots of smoke), BOOM (bright flash, minimal smoke). I have paid more for Stingers ever since.

I found the same with gun show reloads in .40 and .38, versus real ammo. I shot a lot Blazer when I could get it at Sportsman's for $5.99 to $9.99 per 50. Not sure what it costs now, but it was worth the extra few dollars for ammunition that was reliable and cleaner, making gun cleaning easier as well.

There was a booth that had wolf 223 and x39 ammo about as cheap as I'd get it online so I bought a bunch there over time. I also bought a bunch of 38 wadcutters from the vintage booths when I had my model 52-2. Beyond that I don't think I've ever seen ammo at tanner that beat the prices I could get online (even factoring shipping), and rarely prices that beat walmart, but I suppose that's to be expected.

I bought some Wolf for my SIG 232 .380 at a gun show fifteen years ago. I still have a lot of it. I'll never buy that garbage again. Nastiest ammo I have ever shot. I spent an hour trying to clean that pistol. A nice gun deserves good ammo.

We have a gunshow here in Trinidad today and tomorrow. I bought ammo because it was a great price. $10 a box for 9, 40 and 45 practice ammo. I also bought it because it was a small mom and pop shop that was selling.

I've burned through about 3k of wolf in various pistol calibers, 2-3k of 223, and who knows how much in my AK. I'll get brass when it's on sale, or if it's for something particularly nice, but I've had absolutely zero issues with wolf so far. Haven't even noticed any additional cleaning trouble, though if I'm being honest I try to go as long as possible without cleaning (again, unless it's something really nice.

edit: zero issues should be "zero wolf specific issues", or more clearly I've not had any more failures with it than with other ammo in any of the firearms I've used it in

There are some people who will pay show prices be it a few boxes or 1/2 doz cases because they don't want the .gov to know they're stockpiling. While once again completely oblivious to the fact the same .gov knows they not only have a few suppressors but 1 or more select fire guns. Yeppers the .gov has no clue you're buying ammo. [facepalm]
