Son's girlfriend has lived here all her life and never seen a moose. This morning on 285 by Bailey she saw 1 in the morning on her delivery route and 2 on her way back down. Pretty neat for her !!!

That looks like it's up near Kenosha Pass. Good for her.
Gah! I've still not seen a moose, and was also up there this morning.

We have seen a few, usually on the way up to Steamboat Springs. I was riding a motorcycle out east of Greeley and saw a juvenile moose walking right down the highway.
Anyone see the story about the black bear near 133rd and Huron? That is the northern tip of Westminster.
Moose? Long Draw reservoir. Seen at least one every time. The other sure location is Walden and the wildlife area just south of Walden.

Moose.. not deer. Duh
If anyone wants to see moose, head up to Brainard Lake, -they are fairly plentiful right now.

There was one at 86th and Federal about 6 or 7 years ago. It was on one of my running paths, and I happened to chose another path that night. The next morning the police had streets blocked off for several blocks and the police helicopter was floating around. We turned on the news to see who they were looking for and it was a black bear!
Thanks for the moose tips. Hunting starts next week though so I can't peel off to go see one. I'll be in Bailey again tomorrow morning though. Pretty close to everything, so I probably won't get lucky.

Couple of good looking meese there.
On a related subject, I was near Gunnison a couple of weekends ago and saw a brown bear cub. I didn't know there were brown bears in Colorado. I've seen black bears and this definitely wasn't a black bear. I came around a tight curve on my motorcycle and he was about to cross the road. He stopped and I slowed down quickly. Not sure which one of us was more surprised. He turned and ran but I passed by about ten feet from him and got a good look at him.
If he didn't have the shoulder hump, he was just a brown black bear.
He had a head the size of a five gallon bucket. Kind of like Winnie the Pooh. Maybe I need to Google pictures of black bear cubs to make sure I'm not wrong

Its always easier when they wear name tags. Was he wearing his? Did it say Igor?
Black bears come in all colors from Black to Blond. I've heard that most bears in Colorado are more brown than black. Something to do with their diet and the amount of rainfall from what I understand.
Well if there aren't brown bears in Colorado then the parks and wildlife people need to get this off of their website.

I hope there are grizzlies.
Did you fill out that form?

An estimated 1100-1200 lb moose was tranquilized today in Colorado Springs for relocation.
No. But I should have. I could be famous.

Thanks for this information gentlemen. It looks like I've got a road trip to make this weekend or next (work may keep me from trekking this weekend). There are 2 things here in Colorado that my wife REALLY wants to see - moose (particularly bulls) and big horned sheep. Every place we go that says the are present we come up empty handed. We did see a small herd of big horns cross Hwy 24 between Buena Vista and Independence Pass (actually Twin Lakes) about 10 years ago, but my wife dismissed them because they "weren't in their native habitat" (translation: they were on a highway and weren't in the mountains)

The long standing position of the DOW (yeah, yeah, "Parks & Wildlife..geesh) is that there are NO brown bears/grizzlies in Colorado, however... Several trained folks who know the difference between a brown colored black bear and a true brownie have reported seeing them in the Northwest and Southwest corners of the state. Because of this, I'm certain that there are a limited number of them here.

There was a moose hanging out in Greeley.
Same story with wolves right?
I ran into three pretty close at Wild Basin RMNP a few weeks ago.

I just saw one on Colorado Blvd.
Great, now Russia is even invading our moose population.
All the bull moose I've seen lately are younger animals. This morning a yearling bull walked through the yard about 15 feet from me. He has pretty much scraped all the velvet off his antlers. But wow, I'm looking for one like the big fella on the left. Moose rifle season begins Oct. 1st.
It's a darn shame I can't hunt Wild Basin, and those bulls are unlikely to move out of the North St. Vrain drainage.

IIRC a bow hunter was attacked by a grizzly and he was able to kill it with an arrow ( [Eek2] ) about 30 - 35 years ago, somewhere in Southern or Central Colorado. I remember it being on the news at the time because it was assumed that there were "NO" grizzlies in CO.
I want to say this was sometime between about 1979 and 1985. Anyone else remember that or are you all nOObies to Colorado? [Sarcasm2]

Oh man I can't wait until there's more Moosen here ... Elk is tastier than Deer ... but Moose, oh sweet baby Jesus, Moose is as much better than Elk as Elk is to Deer.
So once more moose show up and their numbers get to where they'll start issuing more tags ... the mouth waters at the mere thought.
It is getting easier to draw, and you can get lucky once you have 3 preference points. A friend who is a CPW officer drew her bull moose license at 9 years. It took me 19 years.
I've seen moose on the other side of Jones Pass and the pass west of Buena Vista too.
Meeses.
Sheeshes
Meeses is the plural of mices.
The plural is mooses is mooseses.
That concludes our lesson in butchering the English language today. :)

^ If it's a larger than normal herd it's considered "moosier" [ROFL2]
It is getting easier to draw, and you can get lucky once you have 3 preference points. On the contrary, with the changes to the draw system there is going to be a HUGE influx of people in just two years that will become legible to draw a tag, meaning the chances of ever drawing a tag will dramatically decrease at that time. This holds true for all of the harder to draw tags including sheep and goats.
