I have the occasion of snapping a photo now and then of people's faces.

Over the past decade or so I have chosen to start a series of images, taken once per year, of a few individuals with the hope of photographing them each year for the foreseeable future, ideally in the same lighting and wearing similar outfits from year to year.

As might be expected, their personalities change over the years and what starts as hospitable six year olds turns into early teens that aren't quite as easy to work with and then morph into late teens/early 20's that are once again a joy to photograph.

From time to time there is an anomaly: a person who is just a joy to work with at every stage of the aging process. This afternoon I once again had that experience. Child of a single parent who can, at 13, carry on a converasion with an adult for an hour and be fully engaged the entire time. It's an absolute privilenge to slide behind the camera with this one. Yeah, I could have stripped out the background stands but I kinda like 'em. This was in the backyard three hours ago, entirely natural light:

It’s nice when the younger generation surprises you
