View Full Version : Had a stroke this mornings

I had a stroke this morning.
And I didn’t even know it until the wife got up and I tried to,say good morning. I couldn’t talk and she noticed the left side of my face was drooping. Well of course she called 911.
And I spent the rest of the day in the ER and intensive care. I am currently in Sky Ridge and will be there for a couple days.
My mental abilities are not effected more than what is normal for me, but my speech is for shit, the left side of my face numb and drooping and some of my left side numb to the waist.
All and all I consider myself lucky, it could have been far worse.
Sorry, I just had to relieve the tension and fright I have been felling throughout the day.

Wow, I’m glad you’re doing as well as you are. That had to be scary, no doubt. Hang in there, work hard with the speech therapist. I’m curious if you were a candidate for thrombolytics or an interventional procedure, but understand if you don’t feel like expounding. Let us know if you need anything.

No procedures so far,. Just observation for a couple of days. And rehab unless something raises its ugly head.
Well that's not good. Glad it wasn't any worse. Get better soon.
May God bless you and your family. May He give you peace and patience as you work to recover what you’ve lost.
Thank you for sharing your scare with us. Please let us know how we can help.
Yikes. Really sucks getting old. You seem to have your wits about you so I guess you can count your blessings for that.
Sorry to hear it.

Very happy to hear that you're able to cognitively operate - including typing out a clear and understandable message. Even if you can't communicate via talking for a bit you should be okay with typing out what you need to say.
Also very happy to hear that it wasn't worse than it is. Praying for you and your wife and for guidance to your caregivers.
Please do let us know if there is ANYTHING we can do for you. You have a lot of folks who care deeply for you and want you to heal completely.
It's been too long since we got together to shoot. Once you get recovered, if teh weather is nice, we'll have to go shooting.
Holy shiat !!
Best on a speedy rehab, Bob.
Glad to hear you're still with us! I wish you the best on a rapid and full recovery. A good friend of mine had a series of strokes a few years back, and has recovered very well, so there's good reason to be optimistic!

Holy crap, Bob....hang in there buddy. I hope the speediest of recoveries for you Sir.
Hang in there bud ! Our thoughts are with you.
Take care of yourself, figure out what's wrong and do what the doctor says. Most of all, keep on living. Don't let fear slow you down. Been there done that myself with one notable and apparently multiple other ischemic strokes several years ago. No apparent reason because I have no arterial clogging, and no heart problems. I won't give up and won't slow down. I'm going moose hunting in the Indian Peaks tomorrow.

My thoughts & prayers.
That your aphasia is not effecting your over all linguistic comprehension is encouraging! That means, luckily for us you'll continue to bust me, Kowalski & everyone else each time we use a malapropism or the wrong homophone.

I went through the same thing 3 years ago. If you want to “talk” through it or ask any questions about my experience, just send me a PM.

Get better, keep doing your best to function as normal, I've been there and live with effects after stroke. Best advice is don't give up.

+1...couldn't have said it any better.
ETA: Be patient with yourself and try not to get frustrated during your recovery. Progress sometimes doesn't make itself obvious.

Missed this earlier, hope this finds you in good spirits and on the road to recovery
Gee whiz Bob! Thank goodness you're still alert and aware. Glad it wasn't worse. A great friend of mine had a stroke back in February. He's still in an assisted living facility trying like hell to get the right side of his body to work again. Very glad you're doing better.
I've been away for a while, and am just seeing this now.
May you have a speedy recovery! How long are you at Sky Ridge?
It's been a few days. How are things going?

I am home as of yesterday afternoon. Now, all of the therapies will start (speech therapy, physical & occupational therapy) as well as the heart monitoring 24/7 for 30 days
And No driving for at least 30 days or more. So that means no working for the time I am under the driving restriction.

Good to hear. Speaking from experience - treat all of that therapy like it's liquid gold. Take all you can get, and give all you got. Every bit of therapy helps the brain re-route around the damaged area and means you've regained more of your function back.
I had to learn to walk again and the therapy was key.
It's tiring, and sometimes it hurts, but it is so worth it.
Good luck and here's to a speedy and complete recovery!
