View Full Version : No elk but I got a daughter
Name: Genevieve Raphaelle (feminine French form of Raphael)
Weight: 7lb3oz
Length: 19.75”
Born at: 1915, 16 Sep
Pictures attached.
I was almost a full 2 miles from camp and had been cow calling with my buddy for about 10 minutes when he shouted, “$cs1983, voicemails! $yourwife called $mywife and said she’s going into labor!” We immediately unnocked arrows, checked that we had all equipment, and proceeded to run down the ridge and up another with bows and packs. Haven’t breathed that hard since I was in the Army. Buddy tore down camp while I got everything in the truck and then we raced down to the forest road to get to the highway. Surprised my truck is still in one piece.
From the time we got the call until we were at the main forest road was a few minutes under an hour, for a total of 7 miles traveled - ~2 on foot and 5 on a very rough road. I made it into the delivery room seconds after she came out, having raced the whole way there.
I've nicknamed her Piti (as in wapiti) so I can say I got one this season. Lol.
The boys (3.5 and 18 months) love her. We are all still getting used to the new routine.

After my first was born with a similar story while I was elk hunting, I told my wife that wouldn’t be happening again during hunting season, boy number 2 was born in July!

Congratulations brother. That's quite a story that'll be shared for years to come.
Huge CONGRATS!!!!
Happy you made it (by seconds at least).
Congrats! No way my wife would let me get that far away when she's that close to delivery.
Congrats brother!

Congratulations!
Thanks everyone. She'd had no real indications of imminent labor that morning, and her due date wasn't even until 8 Oct, so we thought we'd be good for one last go at filling the tag. It went very quickly. She started having contractions after 1600, I got the call at 1655, and Piti was born at 1915. She didn't even get a chance for an epidural. And I quote, "All those women who say having a baby without an epidural is empowering, and you feel better afterwards, are a bunch of liars."

Beautiful Girl. ♡ Cheers!
Congratulations. You can hunt with her on her birthdays later (if she'd into that). Enjoy her.
Congratulations from Nancy and me.

Congratulations!! My wife would have never gotten me out of the field!
That's why some men get along better with their wives than me.
Congratulations to you, your wife, and 2 sons for welcoming the new addition, CavSct1983! That is very exciting!
3 kiddos under 4 is a lot to handle. Your wife must be an angel!

Congrats!
She's a cutie.
When my first born was due any day, I went on a day trip to my mother's funeral- she didn't let me visit her in the hospital before surgery because my wife was so pregnant.
The only way my family agreed to let me go when my wife was 9 months pregnant was because I arranged to leave at 4am and get back by 10pm... no overnight.
I like your memory better.
by the time my wife gave birth the 3rd time, it was quick.... and epidurals never worked very well for her.

Congratulations on the new addition to the family.
Thanks again, guys, for all the well wishes and congrats.
I'm glad I worked all those extra hours for the comp time, as it's coming in handy.
Congrats Jon!
She's adorable.
I was on the road traveling from 2nd AIT to hometown for leave, to recover my pregnant wife and oldest son who had gone earlier while I cleared post, when my youngest son was born, glad you made it.
He turned 34 on the 19th.

I’m late to the party, but Congrats! With two older brothers (and you), she’ll be the safest girl in town.
So did you pop the dates on your unfilled tag with the day she was born and put it into the baby book?

I'm planning to do that, actually. I'll also do a writeup and include it so the details are committed while still fresh in the mind.
