Vehicle is a Sequoia mostly for towing a light (lifted) camper, and some road trips. Not really my daily commuter or winter warrior, but I try to drive it once / week.

KO2 vs. Duratrac: GO.

I know the KO2 is the most "Bro tire" on the Toyota forums. I've had a few of those BFG mAll Terrain KOs, and they do last forever, but I was never super impressed in the wet or off-road. Lasted forever, though.
I do have these Duratracs on my wife's 4Runner, and love them so far, but it has been about 5000 miles, if that. I want them for my Taco. They sure look better, IMO. I'm inclined to go with them here too, but the BFG will probably outlast them, and I don't need much more than fire roads.
And, let's say I'm not interested in other brands. Price comes to basically the same within $50-$100 (elsewhere).

I’ve got the duratracks on my truck and while they wear like steel they get noisy as you add mileage on them. I’ve got 75,000 miles on mine with 20k or more let in them but they are so noisy I am going to replace them in the next few weeks. If you do get the duratracks consider the 10 ply as their is more tread depth. Traction has been excellent but these are on an Escalade so most miles were on paved roads with some dirt roads.

I really like the DuraTracs, on my 3rd set (between 2 trucks). Don’t know about the “KO” version, but the older T/As didn’t have as good of wet or snow traction as the DuraTracs. I rotate religiously, and haven’t had a problem with wear.

Had KO on an Xterra and they were nail magnets, no idea why. I have Duratracs on my burb and like them. Yes a bit loud. When I went to choose between the KO2 and Duratracs, the KO2 were quite a bit more, and I dont recall if the KO2 had the snowflake mountain symbol, but the duratracs did. Prior to those I had wrangler silent armour tires. Much less agressive, but very quiet, less traction in snow.

If you aren’t stuck on those two, check out the Nitto Ridge Grapplers. I had a set on my Ram 2500 and loved them. Will be putting a set on my Tahoe this winter.

If you want to save some money, The falken Wildpeak A/T 3 get great reviews when I was buying last year, wearing very slowly and I have no complaints so far. Basically a little less awesome looking than the pinnacle "status" tire the ko2 is.

I’ve actually considered those as well as the Pathfinders AT’s.

I was all set to get BFG's 2 years ago after I lifted my Suburban but was intrigued by the Wildpeaks. They carry the same "severe weather" rating that the Duratracs and KO2's have. 2 years on I think they've been great tires and I saved around $200 by going with the Falken's over BFGs.

No ragrets here. :D

Funny thing, I wanted to get them from Discount Tire but DT doesn't sell them in this part of the country (because why would anyone in Colorado want an AT tire that also works in the snow? )

So I had to special order them. When I went to have my tires rotated last month I asked if they had started offering the Wildpeaks in CO yet and they said no. [facepalm]

I've put about twelve sets of tires on various trucks over the last several years. I don't typically get very aggressive though so I may not have any good advice. I will say I've been happiest with the Nitto or Toyo tires overwll compared to just about everything else.

I can't speak to Falken tires, but I sure wish Shatner would sell them. I just want to hear him say something about "your falken tires!"

I have a 13 F150 and had Duratracs 285/75-17 , for about 30K. Just switched to KO2s. I was never truly impressed with the duratrac. They did good in deep snow , or fresh show but in anything else performance always seemed lacking. Even in just rain it wouldn’t take much to get my truck sliding. I had a Tacoma and ran the original KO’s and Goodyear MTRs during hunting season and the KOs were always great until it got too muddy. Anyways we just put the KO2’s on my truck 285/75-17 (E load) and a set on my wife’s trailhawk (LT) so we’ll se how they pan out this winter. So far we are both impressed with ride/noise and handling. Only time will tell.

I got mine thru discount tire, so not sure what's happening there. I do think they had to ship them in but it didnt cost anything more. You do get different prices depending what portal or site you order them thru (their ebay store, national site, or local shops quotes)

After having both, I prefer the BFGs, got more miles out of them. The KO2 "upgrades" do it make a bit quieter on the road and seem to get mud off a bit better than the KO. Both are good tires and you would be happy with either. Think it comes down to personal preference.

For my application of commuting, off-roading, and confidence in any weather Colorado dishes out, you can't beat the Duratracs. You can spend less (or more) but for very capable do-all tires, I'm stuck on these. If you rotate regularly, they'll last a long time and won't be noisy. All tires with large lugs get loud when not rotated. I do it every 5k and don't feel they're any louder than new.

Another vote for the duratracks. The ko's were great but I think the duratracks edged them out. The duratracks are also cheaper.Just my 2 cents.

I went from running several different duratracs for around 7 years to ko2’s 2 years ago. On road the ko2’s are better, off road, about the same. I’ve put around 60,000 miles on my current ko2s so far.

I like the ko2’s better and they wear better. Under 10,000 miles duratracs are great. After that, very noisy.

Also, the side walls on duratracs are an issue when off roading.

I personally have had great luck with the general grabber at2. Ran the original BFG for years and the grabbers have done everything I need them to. I even ran the generals on both my turbo Subaru’s. And the N/A outback I had The Tacoma needs tires before winter and I will be going with the grabbers

I have heard the general grabber at2's are up there with the ko's and duratracks. Wally world had the best price on the grabber at2's when I was pricing tires.
