four 6 mm barrels cut side by side within one steel block. New ammunition blocks fired by electromagnetic actuators that could theoretically give the weapon a firing rate of 250 rounds per second.

And then there’s the feature no soldier would turn down. “It’s called a power shot,” Grier said.

That’s the shotgun feature of this sniper-shot, machine-assault gun that can send four bullets simultaneously whizzing toward an enemy at more than 2,500 mph.

The article said the army ordered a military version for testing. Should be interesting to see if anything comes of it. Lots of fire volume promised. I wonder what how controllable it is to keep rounds on target.

Retarded, a rehash of metal storm. While you could find advantage in the multibarrel, those blocks of ammo look huge and can't have that high capacity, either the single block or a few stacked behind each other and ejected.

I'd rather see the money spent on a mini gun for a drone. Kind of like a small A-10. Do you really need an anti-tank missile to kill a guy doing a goat?

The picture in the article makes me thing the US military got scammed, but I shouldn't judge it by looks.

Thing would need to be belt fed to be of any use. Aside from the multi-bore design, I only see this as upping the ante on failure points.

The Army is either going to test this and say, "Thanks, but no thanks" or they are going to ask for changes that he balks at because this is his baby. Then, if the Army is still interested, they will ask for a few companies to test out the concepts they like that aren't patentable and this dude will be steamrolled by a large manufacturer because something like a multiple-bore system isn't exactly a new concept and he won't be able to fight it in court.

I get pissed enough as it is when my cordless drill runs out of juice and no one's even shooting at me.

No thanks.

Metal Storm technology has been around for a while. The video was from 12 years ago...

That was the first thing that came to mind when I read it. Some ideas sound good on paper, but fall apart in the execution.

A drone firing 5.7 as fast as an American 180 could really be something. I've seen an American 180 cut a fence post in half.

A pinned down infantry unit with a drone armed with a .50 minigun could be a game changer. I mean a big drone like a reaper. Probably less chance of fratricide too. Much of the success of combat is having the right tools.

Nobody needs 250 rounds per second. [Sarcasm2]

Good on him for putting the time and money into developing something new. I don't know if his ideas will go anywhere, but I find it very encouraging that in 2018 there are still garage-based tinkerers who can come up with unique new gun designs.

FWIW, Stoner started in his garage, too.

Nah. You need a Sharps Carbine for that.
