Trebuchets, catapults, and air cannons + punkins = Good times.

My teenage son's first job was running the trebuchet at a local pumpkin farm capable of 600' tosses.

I've been out there once before a few years ago and it was a riot! Loved it. Might have to go back again this year!

Tossing anything with a trebuchet is a good time. Pretty sure I saw a show once where they were launching appliances (washers, dryers, refrigerators) and even tossed a small car.

Good times.

My son competed in the trebuchet event for Science Olympiad in middle school, finished first in state and ninth in the nation one year.

Neato.

It's pretty cool when you can launch giant, heavy, nasty stuff without using chemical propellant.

The only thing I remember about the show Northern Exposure was a guy had a trebuchet.

Now that's a show I haven't considered or heard mentioned in a long, long time. I didnt even recognize Ray's reference to it.

There are desktop-size trebuchets available in kit form. Simple assembly, even for <10yo with just a bit of supervision.

It made me the coolest uncle for a week or so.

I don't know if he was referencing it, but I recall the episode ending with them chucking a kitchen appliance with it.

Wow, whomever owns the rights to NE is a scrooge. If I want to watch, I have to buy. Seems there's some issue with the soundtracks too.

Yep, even if you buy the episodes on DVD, they don't have a lot of the music the show had. I'm sure it has something to do with money, but it was never resolved.

That is impressive.
Do you know if it was tractional or counterweight?

Post a pic!

Awesome. Does he put it on is resume'?

Asking because I'd say something such as
'Counterweight Weapons Specialist'
& I'd never take it off. -lol

If you've ever been a baseball pitcher, can't you claim to be a "human trebuchet"?

Can't see the pumpkin once it launches... on one launch I was able to spot the pumpkin in flight, most of the time I couldn't see it.

Furthest chunk of the day was 3801 feet. Was a very strong headwind the entire time.

On this next one, the pumpkin explodes right as it comes out of the barrel. Called a "pie".

On Northern Exposure, they were all excited about flinging a cow, until someone mentioned that had been done, on Monty Python. Totally bummed, they flung an large appliance instead. Good times.

Looks like I may be there today. Look for a chestnut fedora and moss colored fleece.

The older box sets of NE had all the music and sceens.
