Looking to get my Garand stock coated in whatever is best for it. Maybe Tung oil? Something to make it more weatherproof. Does anyone know a gunsmith in the Denver (closer to Golden ideally) area who could do this really well? Not sure the CMP coated it. It's a CMP special.
Thanks!
I've soaked a few stocks in BLO. I did them in the summer and it took a long time to dry, in my case I set them out in the sun to help shorten the drying time. I put it on heavy and then wiped them down a few days later. In any event here's the CMP's take on it:

Linseed is nice, Just takes time to run the process especially now since the weather is getting colder. Its not hard and there's a ton of tutorials out there if you'd like to save some cash and make it a DIY project.
Linseed oil can make a beautiful stock. It takes a bit of time though.
I have a couple of pictures of one of my M1s. Too big to post here

Try Dave Sullivan with Westwind Rifles in Erie. He's the go to guy for Garands and M1A's

Looks like he gets fantastic reviews online. How do I get in touch with him? Couldn't find his website online.

Your going to be waiting a long time and paying dearly for Sullivan.
BLO will work but as mentioned it takes a long time to get a nice finish, when I restocked my Garand it took me 3 months to get a finish I liked.
Tung oil type finishes are considerably faster as they have a dryer component to them.
LinSpeed is worth a look: https://www.lin-speed.com
Do be aware though most oil type finishes offer minimal water resistance.
While easier to repair an oil finish it is also the least protective as a general statement.

Is that Lin-speed good stuff? Easy to apply and fairly weatherproof?

I've got supplies to do my CMP special stock, following instructions I found on the cmp forums for a quick, attractive and durable finish. The rifle I saw that used it matched the color on my old WWII USGI 1903A3 stock very well. I wouldn't use this method on an actual old stock, but for a new stock, it looked like it did really well.
1. Apply Minwax wood conditioner to assure even stain penetration (very important step)
2. One coat USSR stain (stain blend sold by a guy on the CMP forums)
3. One coat Minwax Neutral #209 (to highlight the grain)
4. Two coats Minwax Tung Oil Finish
The "USSR" stain is stain blend sold on the CMP forums classifieds page.
