View Full Version : Cleaning blood and hair off of nylon?

The good news is, my hunting season is over, it lasted about 40 minutes from 7:00am until I took my first (and only) shot and dropped a nice sized doe antelope in Wyoming (Monolith Ranch.)

Bad news is, both my utility/survival knife and my Wyoming knife got pretty bloody and hair stuck to them dressing said antelope.

The knives I can clean easily as they are plastic/rubber/steel. But both have nylon sheaths - what have others used to clean them? Particularly the inner sheath on the big knife since I had to put it back into the sheath after using it to break the ribs open.

Soak it in a solution maybe? And what should the solution be? Just soap or something stronger? As I said, both sheaths are nylon, no leather.

Thanks in advance!

I just use a toothbrush with dawn after soaking it in hot soapy water.

Got all the nasties out of my cordura pack the last 3 years

Hydrogen peroxide takes blood stains out, then oxy-clean for organic material and other stains. Rinse well.

Be curious to hear how this goes...

I have a BMF which ended up with the handle/grip (not really sure what it's made of, but is porous) completely soaked with blood (same cause) and only time for a quick-rinse then. Was never able to get it fully cleaned out, and not sure it's worth the risk of sending in for sevice (though that would be more related to blade refinishing than blood-soaked grip)

Another vote for peroxide... with a little grease-cutter (like Dawn) added to ensure it gets in the smallest spaces... a little baking soda if you want the tiniest bit of grit to scrub.

(BTW, these 3 ingredients make the best de-skunk solution I've ever used... tested by mythbusters)

Hence the reason I posted this in the "hunting" sub-forum and not in the "I need help" sub forum. [panic]

That post will be the cryptic "I need buddies with strong backs and good shovels" post, right?

Have you verified with a UV or black light?
