I usually just reflexively vote NO on all judges on principal, but considering the fact that we're likely to get a further blue state government with one of the bluest governors ever, is it wise to get rid of the current judges and let them be replaced with worse?
Anyone have any insight on any of the judges ... are any of them worth keeping?

I feel voting no on principle can certainly bite us in the rear, I try to research the best I can, and at a minimum find out who appointed them, and typically vote no on Dem appointed judges. I realize my method may not be the best either, but I think it's a touch safer than trying to boot them all out.

Yeah I do that too, but in this year's case the Supreme Court Justice Richard Gabriel was appointed by Ritter to the appeals court and Hickenlooper to the Supreme Court, but he also ruled against cities banning fracking and pissed off Polis ... so maybe he's worth keeping.
I just wish we could go back to Judges that were not political animals.
I look at their voting records. Any hint of legislation from the bench...do not retain. I have not done my homework on them yet this year.
Share whatever info you guys find

Has ANY judge been voted out, ever? Last I knew it has never happened in Colorado, but I haven't bothered to look in a decade or so. I vote no on all judges by default for this reason.

I like to see who appointed the judge to the position and where that judge is from (not necessarily where they got their JD). Take Judge Gabriel. From Brooklyn, NY and appointed by Hick. I can't see much good coming from that so I think NO. That said, I ask the same question as Wofshoon. Has any judge ever been voted out? If you go solely based on the ratings found on coloradojudicialperformance.gov then they are all stellar legal minds. If you use ballotpedia to look at their profiles then they're described as 'a nonpartisan judge' which, in some cases, clearly isn't reality. Unfortunately there are several on my ballot that were appointed by Ritter and/or their profile doesn't say where they grew up which is a NO on my tally sheet.

This is what I did. The way politics are these days, Democrats appoint Democrats, and Visa versa. Hickenlooper definitely didn't do its any favors.

Good point, however in Gabriel's case if he's replaced he'll be replaced with a Polis replacement (unless we're extremely lucky and get Stapleton).
I kinda wish we could have an election for the politicians one week and then vote on the judges, amendments and propositions a week later. :p
Gabriel is a registered democrap, New York native, and Yale grad. How is that for liberal? I'm not sure it can get any worse. Maybe the Polis [mod edit - keep it civil] will pick a tranny liberal judge?

Like the one standing next to Hick in the picture?
Trying to go through this now... What a mess.
On one hand Amendment W would simplify this but people are so lazy they might vote to retain or dismiss without researching.
Colorado Court of Appeals appointments...

Example of 18th Judicial District. You can click on each name to see appointments...

CO Office of Judicial Performance Evaluation is worthless but here it is...

There is one in my district that "Does Not Meet Performance Standards."
After researching the judges, reading some rulings, looking at who appointed them and why, I voted to not retain on all but three.
Judge John Daniel Dailey, CCoA, I voted to retain. He has a great track record and was appointed by Owens.
I voted to retain 2 JeffCO Court Judges, Fisch and Randall.
I made my retention votes based on who appointed them. I think I only had 2 or 3 retentions.
W made sense to me, but figured some voters might be confused by the change, so I went with leaving it alone.

You and I are probably in the same districts. I voted to retain Dailey and Spear (18th) only.

I put a lot of stock in the reviews on each judge. I look to make sure that the judge is fair to defendants, though not preferential. I was summoned for jury duty earlier this year, and was very impressed with the judge, so I wouldn't want to vote him out, knowing that if I had to go before him I'd get a fair deal.

All of this effort to identify who to keep and only two judges voted out - El Paso County court/Judge Acker and District Court, 18th Judicial District/Judge Douglass. It looks like most were retained with 70% or more of the vote.

Agreed. I don't expect the redistricting to be in the conservative's favor when Bloomberg backed the initiatives with millions of his own dollars. It is sad that an electorate can be bought with millions in outside money pouring into the state for multi-color glossy mailers with questionable statements on them and the huge ad buys suggesting that Coffman (not a fan) was responsible for the insurance premiums going up. Premiums are going up regardless of who is in office. They're going up faster because of the ACA. But, hey, people will believe anything when it supports their own bias.
