Hey all,

I'm like to shoot sports photography for fun. My paid work is all commercial. To this point, I've only shot hockey, but I'd like to give shooting (photographically) a shooting match. I'm fully insured as a photographer, and I'd be happy to meet with the MD and ROs ahead of time to discuss logistics. I'd be willing to provide the photos for the match director to use for any purpose, including future promotions, website, etc.

Anyone out there that runs matches interested? I'd prefer Denver to the North end of the state, but I'm open to other options.

I figured I'd start discussing now for next year's matches to allow for any discussions, approvals, proof of insurance, etc that might be required.

Generally you'll want to contact the match director, and I believe beyond that you just need the permission of the shooter. I find that once you introduce yourself during the shooters meeting, then people know you're not some putz from New York writing a slander piece and everyone is fine with it. That's just my opinion and personal experience as I've seen an unannounced photographer being viewed as an unwelcome photographer at worst, and gets a lot of sideways glances at best. I'm sure you'll have zero problems and will get lots of great shots.

Talk to Hoser, travel to Pueblo, meet nice people. You will get good practice, just like shooting the match. After that you could likely photograph some bigger precision rifle matches pretty easily if you willing to travel.

I guess it would depend on what discipline you want to shoot (pun intended). Show up and shoot!

Remember a tripod and remote trigger. That way you can get some front of muzzle shots. I have a Canon 20D that I keep for that.

Check with instructors who might want to have pics taken. Probably would take getting to know them so that you aren?t seen as a possible liability. The best way to do that is to shoot some matches. It helps with the ?whatchu doin? boy? issue.

Getting consent from the shooters is key. There are more than a few people at matches that are shy, for various reasons.

I don't mind what type of match, and in fact, the more disciplines I can try, the better. I appreciate it.

If you are interested in joining me on Saturday at BenLomond for a 3gun match then I’ll check with the MD.

That's really awesome of you, dude. Unfortunately, we are having my son's birthday party. I think I'd rather be at the match! I love any time I get with my son, but wrangling nine 10-year-olds and a 4-year-old in a busy place full of kids really is not my idea of fun.
