Hey everyone,

Been a while since I have been here, work and school and life have been interesting for a bit. I finally have time to start shooting again. Planning on starting 3-gun. I pulled the trigger on a TTI M2, should have it by next week, hopefully. I am looking for advice on a 3-gun pistol. Have been eying an STI DVC for pistol. I carry a 1911 and is my preferred platform, though I have also been looking at a Glock 34. I plan on using my RRA Entry Tactical w/ TA01ECOS for now. Just wondering what you all run and your opinions. There are so many gear options it is hard to filter through everything when you are getting started. I have been looking at some Safariland gear, holster, shell carriers, etc. I know I need to start practicing shotgun reloads since that seems to be a time drain for many people. Just looking for suggestions, what you all use and why.

Thanks,
Chris

Don't over think it, It's just a pistol. Pick one and shoot.

Also If your RRA shoots strait, doesn't jam and trigger is clean stick with that.

Yep. And anyone who has been in the game at all will tell you to NOT buy anything for at least the first few matches. Ask ahead of time to borrow what you don't have. 3Gun is expensive, worse when you buy the wrong gear.

While most of the top 3Gun competitors shoot a 2011, very few of them need it, and many of them have DQ'd because of it. Wins at majors have been had with just about every viable platform.

I would suggest taking what you have, once you get your shotgun, and running a few matches.

There is no better way to learn what to use, for you personally, than doing it, seeing what worked and what didn't, and then changing from there.

Here's the one thing I've learned from high-end 1911/2011 guys. The one they have is the best and it never jams. Ever. Even when it does. There is no single answer to "what one should I get." Mark is also right saying that they don't win matches.

As far as shotgun caddies 100% take the advice above and talk to people at matches before you buy. There are a bunch of really good options but only one might be right for you. Also you probably don't need a big chest rig unless you're doing a lot of big matches. Save your money there until you know you need one down the road.

If I'm reading the OP right and you've never done a match then just get what you have and go have fun for a season. Worry about going home with a smile on your face.

Shoot what you got. Study what the top guys are running on Brian Enos. Plan your budget.
If you like the 1911, get some 10 rounders and have at it.
You got to ask yourself what is your objective here? Have fun? Learn and get better? Win some comps? Have an excuse for some cool gear?
