Secure storage at CU-Boulder sporting events

FYI- CU-Boulder is now offering an attended secure storage locker option outside football and basketball events for $10. This allows you to avoid leaving your weapon at home or in your car for 4 hours and minimizes your unarmed time. I would prefer it to be free, but it's better than nothing. The attendant I spoke to said that many people have used it for concealed carry firearms. Your thoughts?

Better than offering nothing and pretending that people don't, or shouldn't carry. The more times it's used, the more those stats can be referenced by CU liberals in the future to be confronted with reality.

It would be nice if this was the standard at screened venues. I must add that this is NOT just for weapons, but anything that can't go though security, like non-clear backpacks.

If I cannot carry there, I don't need to be there other than federal property, or work (subject to federal laws).

I think it's a fantastic idea. Those transitional spaces are the most dangerous, so the ability to keep my weapon on me to and from my car is a huge improvement. As .455 Hunter said, it would be great if it was standard at all screened venues. I'm okay having to pay for the use, since it costs money to add and maintain. Besides - if it was free, we'd still be paying for it in our ticket prices.

If I were to expound on my contribution... I would say that leaving my weapon anywhere that is not under my control is a no-no for me.

- What kind of "attendant" is hired to "attend" to these "secure" storage lockers?
- Would they be legally allowed to own a firearm in the eyes of our government?
- Is this person over 21?
- Citizen?
- Felon?

- Many storage lockers that I have seen at venues, schools, etc are nothing more than a box of sheet metal "secured" with a cheap lock.

Same rules apply for every where I go. I know where all my firearms are what state they are in, and if they are not under my direct control then they are locked up in a manner that will not allow anyone I would not want to get unattended access to them.

This pretty much sums up my opinion on the idea of the storage lockers.

If I can't carry to where I am headed, I leave it at home in the safe.

I don't trust people to not break into my vehicle.
I don't trust people to not break into my house.
I sure as hell won't trust some minimum wage earning monkey to not break into a poorly made storage locker, and wander off with something that I am responsible for.

Yes- Those are very legitimate and valid concerns. If you do use the service, making the weapon unidentifiable in a small backpack or non-descriptive bag might be the best route.

And I even go further along those lines, to believing that carrying your concealed weapon in a bag is still not under your control. A bag can too easily be snatched from you, and there goes your pistol with it.

I don't know... maybe I go too far, but I believe that if I am not doing absolutely everything I can to keep a tool that in the hands of someone who I do not approve of having possession of said tool, I am not performing my due care and due diligence as a responsible firearm owner. But if folks are comfortable with the provided services then go for it. I just would not personally use the services of these storage lockers for anything that I would not to part with.

I am assuming this attendant has a master key as well? Just saying.

In my case, I would be pocket carrying something on the order of a j-frame or smaller, and would discretely transfer it to the bag/backpack near lockers, not using the off-body bag for any extended period.

I just remember a year or two back at Elitch's they were having a bunch of locker burglaries in a locker area set up for the water park. Lockers like those just keep honest people honest. I just have this fear of my firearm going into the wrong hands and being used for nefarious reasons. Yeah I know shouldn't feel bad for someone else's choice to hurt folks, but I would rather it not be with my firearm.

Anyways I'll leave it at that.

Not really the same, but I don't even care to go into the convenience store if Ive got 'unsecured' items in my locked vehicle going to & from matches, so I'm with you rbeau30 on the 'under my charge only' rule.

If this is at the CU stadium, it stands to reason that the "attendant" is probably a CU police officer. That would make sense from a number of points of view. Otherwise, it's not really "secure".
