The photo seemed odd when I first viewed it. My thoughts were: Young men in the Malibu hills where there is lots of $$$ and no one pictured has an AR?
And then it hit me... It's California!

Look at the guy in the back row, between the second & third from the left. It sure looks like an AR mag well and foregrip.

A charred body in the woods is a charred body in the woods.
Guy second from left.
Sure looks like a break-barrel suppressed air rifle to me.

Like the double meaning of the spelling
Shot on Site (On Location)
Shot on Sight (When seen)
Did they evacuate and return, or are they the looters in disguise?
I have been in Healdsburg and SF since Friday last week... smoke has been pretty bad, especially in Healdsburg. My friend here is a transplant from CO and has gone through the hoops to keep his Scar16, Sig716, and M&P15, among other “scary” rifles. He’s scared to even pull them out of the safe for fear of alienating himself and his wife from their neighbors but id bet he’d use them against looters if they showed up. Nevertheless, there are still some (neutered) guns in CA.

A pellet shot to the eye can still kill you. A crossbow is even quieter. Walk softly and carry a big shovel.
a .22 pellet rifle can be just as powerful as a .22lr, depending on the model. Red Ryder's, they ain't.

Yep. That guy has a break barrel pellet rifle. At least he’s out there trying. Prob scares the shit out of hippie Cali snowflakes.
I chuckled. Twelve guys in the photo with maybe thirty rounds available. (I figured maybe five or so for the shotguns, about five for a couple of the rifles, six in the revolver, and a round for each air rifle.)
I wonder what the load out would look like if twelve of you guys were in a similar photograph?

you do realize those pics are perhaps planned. Like others who have friends and family in CA, i can say once someone knows you, out comes the serious stuff. Depending on the area of CA, there's a shit load of do not comply items, hypothetically.

We’d have to borrow your pickup for just a days worth of carry ammo.....
Yeah, half of those guys have air rifles.. I guess if that’s all you are able to own you’ve got to go with something.

The scale looks off, almost a photo shop look. And the mag well is empty.
That is a motley crew. Looks like some retired gang bangers a and a few painting enthusiasts. Third guy from the middle has a hi-cap airless behind him.
People who pose for a photo like that are, well, posers.

I think a squirrel is what started the fire. That's why the pellet guns. If a squirrel gets in the HVAC transformers, they can make an arc. They fall to ground in flames. And then the forest burns. Quite a few documented cases of this.
