I tried to do a search and didn't find anything.
The Army is making noise about a "super" 6.8 "telescoping" round, that is being touted with unbelievable abilities for near future use. (https://taskandpurpose.com/army-next-generation-rifle-round/) (https://www.popularmechanics.com/military/weapons/a23654011/army-68-calliber-bullet-replace-556/)
Anyone here know anything about this? Is this caseless, plastic cased? Has there been a huge breakthrough in ammo technology that I've missed?
I'm more than curious if this is all disinformation, hype and pie in the sky dreaming, or for real?
Anyone in the know have a clue about this new ammo?

It's a 50 bmg projectile chambered in 6.8 SPC with a 0.25 inch barrel?

Six 0.25 inch barrels.

Cased telescoping rounds have been touted as the next big thing, and an intermediate step to the development of caseless ammunition, for awhile now. It's been a thing in development for a number of years, and the gun press ocassionally posts stories about it.

I don't think they're much beyond the prototyping and testing phase at this point.

The Firearm Blog has a number of stories about cased telescoping rounds:

Per first link:

"It's a very sophisticated weapon, a very capable weapon. It's got an integrated sight system to it, and it also integrates into the soldier's gear and other equipment that we are fielding," Milley said. "And not surprisingly with a weapon like that, it's probably pretty expensive. We expect it to be expensive so we are probably not going to field the entire Army with this weapon."
