View Full Version : Suggested gun store tour of Denver area?
I literally have to kill 6-8 hours in Denver tomorrow (11/30). I'm starting (and ending) at approximately I25 and Colorado, but given the amount of time, the entire Denver metro area is in striking distance. Yhea, with that much time I could drive home (Colorado Springs) but I feel like exploring.
What gun shops would you suggest I visit that have a wide selections and/or are AR specality shops? I'd like to come up to speed on all the Denver shops I hear about on this board, but have ignored in the past becasue it was of no interest at the time.
I'm not really in the market for anything right now, but who knows...
O2
Ps. If anyone is interested in meeting a nobody from Colorado Springs, PM me and we'll exchange phone numbers and set something up. The day's start and end times are a bit fluid, but I think I'll be free starting about noon and ending about 7, when I'll eat dinner, then pickup the folks at 8ish.

Bowers @ noon. i25 & Arapahoe.
I free up at noon at I25 and Colorado, so I should be there by 12:30.
Future posts: Please give me an address or website. I hapen to know Bowers, but that won't be true of all the other names! :)

Ps. Given that you had a time, I'm taking your post as an "I'll be there" - is that correct?

Meh for 5280. Never had so many people in one store go out of their way to mention/ point out I'm a girl & how inclusive they are. Wtf?
EDIT: Nice enough I suppose, lots of wall inventory.
...Danger Lee
That'll be a day trip from the 'Springs some day soon. Been meaning to get there. Elizabeth is just a bit too far out of the way for tomorrow, though!
As for the others, yhea, they're jogging my memory and I'll go see them!
O2
Damage Factory.
What are you looking for? I look for used guns so I start with Green Mountain at 285/Wadsworth, then west go to Ark at 285/Kipling. You could always go up to Gunsport in Boulder - they have nice used guns.
I wouldn't step foot in 5280 if it was the last gun store in town.

Ark Tactical. 9824 W Girton Dr. Lakewood, CO 80227
Hampden to Kipling, North to Girton (first light north, stay in right lane)
Everyone is knowledgeable, pleasant, and helpful.
If Noah is there, he will entertain and educate!

Yep. Ark too.
Thought of another that fits the criteria:

The three I?d hit in no particular order are Bowers, Damage Factory, and Ark.
Bowers and Damage Factory are maybe five minutes apart if traffic is heavy. Ark is maybe a half hour drive from either of them.

Yhea, I'm running a google map of each location and putting them all in an order that makes sense to drive. Was suprised to see that Damage Factory was so close to Bowers.
Though as soon as I saw the Damage Factory's location, a voice inside my head started saying "The Shane Company, take Arapahoe Road 1/2 mile East to..." :)

If you are looking for a big shop with a lot of guns on the walls and in cases, 5280 armory is the place to go.

I agree that if you just want to lay eyes on stuff you are probably correct.
However, if you actually want to talk or visit with anyone or perhaps maybe even purchase anything the other shops are better in my opinion.

Oh yhea, you've made the list! :)

I accidentally stopped in the same parking lot as Danger Lee just now. I'll go check it out for you.

Yes indeed.
Danger Lee is cool. Make a trip there.

The Damage Factory is one of those “hidden in plain sight” kind of places. Once you find it, you will wonder why you had such a hard time finding it. And Ark Tactical is between the mom & pop quickie mart & the Asian massage parlor.....
LFI, biggest gun store between the Mississippi and California, 50 minutes North off I-25 in Johnstown. Best selection of just about everything in Colorado. The collection of Kimber Serial #1s is worth the gas money for sure. Scheels is is 200 yards from them and a great place to visit and drool. Drive right on by Cabelas.
Mile High Shooting in Erie on the way back if you are at all into Precision.
Machine Gun Tours in Lakewood has some really cool Class III stuff, lots of ARs, not much hunting stuff.
Ark, Damage Factory and Bowers are smaller, great service at all three. If you do Damage Factory and Bowers, Centennial Gun Club is really close to them as well.
Iron horse armory in parker...
I first walked into 5280 many years ago when they were at their original location.
Thought I heard the angels sing that day ! [rockon]
Still frequent them now. I suppose its like politics and religion.
Expectations and experiences will be different for each individual.
Centennial Gun Club is close by. Don't BUY anything there, but it's worth a look.

My vote / personal fav as well. Particularly for the small bits.
Also as a blue label dealer for Glock.
Gun Room on west Colfax?
They're OK. Sometimes they have a nice used Smith or Sig at an OK price. They have a good selection of used bolt action rifles, better than Green Mountain anyway. Saw a couple Mausers I liked.

Thanks O2HeN2!
I've been meaning to visit a couple places mentioned here & I've got nothing but time to kill, so I'll make a couple afternoons of it myself. Iron Horse & Danger Lee one day. Then I'll take a little trip north & check out LCI & Mile High Shooting.
If anyone is willing ot hold onto a Dillon 1050 case feeder tube for "Grant H (https://www.ar-15.co/members/952-Grant-H)" in Longmont, PM me with your phone number and I'll leave it with you today as I'm driving around.
See this reply (https://www.ar-15.co/threads/87717-What-did-you-do-in-the-reloading-room-today?p=2176673&viewfull=1#post2176673) for background.
I PMed Grant and haven't heard back and I don't want to miss this opportunity to at least get it closer to him for pickup.

I have an address you can leave it at, but it's up in Wheat Ridge so may be too far North for your travels.

Haven't seen anyone mention Westminster Arms in Arvada, but they're another great shop with great employees and a solid inventory...

I drive by them 3 or 4 times a week and have never had the time to stop in and take a look. Maybe I should.

Yes, I pop in there sometimes, it's OK.
Reloading Zone in Wheat Ridge is great for reloading stuff and also sells guns.

Yup, I like these people, they're fun. Bought a CZ97 and a Glock 45 + reloading stuff.
Reloaders Corner got moved out of their old location when the Mega WalMart moved in. He is very close and I pop in sometimes. Sometimes I get a good story, sometimes a rant, every once in a while there is a cool old gun I have not yet seen. Don't know how the old guy keeps paying rent. Being next to some pot smoking cash for gold guys might have made him a little less grumpy.

You go to 5280 to eyeball the gun candy on the walls, not to socialize with the workforce.

Exactly. I wasn't there to braid hair, have a pillow fight, or troll for ***...
I'd ask to see something on the rack & it was creepy that I'm a 'lady/girl' was the sole point of contact/conversation from the staff when they spoke to me & what for? No one said the same inclusive b.s. to the guy browsing next to me & he had never been in a firearm shop before.
Don't know, don't care. It was weird.
If it makes you feel any better, I think she is known for the better customer service. Might have been a good thing.

..so 5280
Aside from the 'we make it a point to tell you we like girls too' thing, there WAS indeed plenty of 'gun candy' to ogle & fondle. That part I enjoyed.
& If I remember correctly, their lead instructor is female so now I really don't know what all of that was about... but it still circles back to: don't know, don't care, it was weird.

Yes, I pop in there sometimes, it's OK.They're fairly small, but seemed to have a pretty nice selection overall, and staff was very helpful, with good info on a few topics discussed.
Driven by there many times but never stopped until recently, but they were the closest/most convenient place with a Silencershop kiosk...

I went there once. Got the owner helping me even and he was a complete dick and acted like he had something better to do ...... There was one other person there at the time.
