View Full Version : Where do you find....
Ok, might be a stupid question but...
Where does one find the backing cardboard for targets? I.E., you have a frame and a target, but the target is waay smaller than the frame so you'd like to put a piece of cardboard on the frame to attach the target too.
I know I can use packing boxes, pizza boxes, etc. I'm specifically looking for square/rectangle, already cut pieces of cardboard (or whatever material).
Thank you.

How big do you need?
I think CMSC uses what are basically unprinted campaign plastic signs. Seem to hold up alright.
I have a few of their targets still. If you are going there, I'd be happy to give them to you.
From election signs left on public right of ways. It's considered litter and may be legally taken by anyone. Comes with free stand also.
You can also get them at home depot.

I’ve posted up card board boxes as big as a smart car for free on this forum for free, but no one wanted them.
You could have traced & cut out a dozen or so IPSC targets out of each side.
Since no one was interested I quit posting them up.
Those plastic type corrugated boards are at most of the craft stores and hold up well.

most office supply and craft stores have cardboards sheets of various sizes. When I sell larger TVs I usually slice the box up in to several pieces, can usually get 4-6 2x3 or 2x4 sheets out of them. Had a bunch stockpiled in my garage for a while and threw them out because I wasn't using them.

If you insist on paying for it, 18X24 foam board is a couple bucks a sheet at Walmart and trimmed to size. But a carton cutter and free moving boxes is all you need.
I thought this is what Amazon was for.

I don't think so. I don't need the targets, I need the backing... unless I'm missing something in your link. Thank you.

Something around 16x40 inch. Oh yeah, haven't been to the CMSC in a while, I should've asked them. Thank you for the lead!

I did not need them at the time. Thank you for the recommendation.

Thanks, I guess I was blind when looking around.

Interesting company. I did not see anywhere to order online though on their website. Do you have more information or just letting me know what they were called? thanks.

So that's what I've been doing wrong... I don't drink. At least I know why my life has been suckin' for a few years, HA!.

Foam? Like styrofoam board? I would assume that the little dots would be a pain to pick up outdoors....

I think you can get Coroplast from sign stores. (duh).
Some car racers use it for making airdams and wings, or for a form for fiberglass.
I suspect McMaster Carr sells it, but I expect you would get killed on shipping for big sheets.

I was just letting everyone know what it is called. You can get Coroplast at a lot of places, a sign shop is probably the easiest.
You can buy whole sheets online cut to your size and the shipping isn't too bad.
I built my target stands 18? wide. Fits IPSC/USPSA/IDPA targets perfect. If you don?t want to shoot those targets and want to use some other type of paper target you can just staple it to the IPSC target.

I use the outside packing of motorcycle crates. On carefully cut crate yields a years worth of target backing for my target stands.

if you aren't afraid of dumpster diving, ….. try a Barnes and Noble. Boxes are flat, clean and lots of em. I moved a little over a year ago and found convenient places to get boxes.
I'm not too proud to jump in a dumpster if it has what I need.

LoL - I thought I was the only one who ever did that. Yes, it's litter and often an eyesore - particularly when they put reality/development signs up every 25-50 feet for 1/2 mile.
BigBear, I have a few sheets of actual cardboard saved from boxes I cut up for later target stand use. I'd happily give you a few if you would like them. They aren't yet cut to target stand size, but if you give me the specs on what you need I'll cut them for you.

Thank you Sir. Not needed, just needed info on where to go get them. Thank you though.
It has been taken care of.
