Where can I take a .50 BMG rifle and my own steel targets near Denver?

I?ve looked into both Colorado Rifle Club and Golden Gun Club and both prohibit .50 BMG. Surely there?s somewhere that allows large calibers like this, right?

Maybe Pawnee Sportsmen's Center? I absolutely love shooting there. Great long range and more. Always a nice older gentlemen who checks you in.

Thanks! .50 doesn’t appear to be forbidden in their rules, so that’s looking like a good possibility. I’ve dropped them an email to verify, but it looks promising.

If you're a member or guest, BLGC allows 50 cal and we have a 600 yd range. I think our only large caliber "rule" is not shooting high power under 100yds (there's only one or two 50yd rifle ranges) and no incendiary. No steel when it's hot/dry.

It's a hike, 46 miles for me from Parker. Pawnee is a bit further depending on where in Denver you're coming from.

I think we're back to wait list status @BLGC, but worth looking into. Super cheap dues.

Sounds good! They have a thousand yard range, which is a ton of fun and will be with a .50 no doubt

That looks good, too. Both BLGC and Pawnee look to be the same 90min away from downtown, so I’ll have to try them both out.

What older gentleman? NVM i was a member there and never shot on weekends. It's a set steel range out to 1K, where 50 is not discouraged. BUT. they're set plates and you're not permitted out past the berm, to repaint them. Bring good spotting scope to get an idea where those 1K targets sit.

How far are you trying to shoot?

Can we dispense with the short names. I have no idea what y'all are talking about and I though I knew the area.

BLGC ?
NVM ?

Thank you and please carry on.

Ben Lomand Gun Club (some range that is far away in a direction I don't usually travel)

Nevermind (children came up with this text abbreviation and adults adopted it)

How far are you trying to shoot?

That’s a great question. I was on the steel at 300 yards (longest range I had regular access to at the old homestead) with both .308 and .50 the last time I took them out, about 5 years ago. Then they went into storage and I went overseas for a few years. Now that I’m back, retrieved the toys, and am relocating to Denver, I’ll have to rebuild all the dope and knowledge that’s faded between then and now. So to answer your question, I’ll have to take a moment to reacquaint myself and get them zeroed again, but I’d like to start working out past 300yd. 1k is aspirational at the moment, but it’s going to be a while before I’m out that far.

Sounds realistic. I was just curious.

Yeah, that took me a moment, too, but googling “blgc Denver shoot” got me what I needed. That tactic wouldn’t help with “nvm” but those results could be funny in their own right. :)

Yah, proud to be a member there! And .50's on the 600, yes.

My very first visit there, some guy let me fire 3 AP rounds out of his AR50 at a steel plate on the 600. Blew my mind, I hit with all 3. And I had never really fired any rifles but .22's before, and a couple shots from an '06 and .30-30 many, many years before.

Back when Jeff Hall used to own Barrett Brothers and do the machine gun shoots out at BLGC. We had scouts out there this day.

I put a friend on the M82A1 but he only took 3 shots so I burned up the mag. [Tooth]
