View Full Version : Good, inexpensive barbershop in south metro?
Been going to a guy for a few years who really did a great job on my hair . . . always got a perfect cut the way I like it. Over the last several visits he's been not doing as well and not really taking the direction (or seeming to care as much) to get it right. And I'm a guy who doesn't tend to be picky at all. So I'm looking to shop around for a new place to get a hair cut in the south metro area.
Simple, short men's style . . . I guess you'd call it a crew cut. Shorter on the sides/back and a little longer on top. My guy charges $13 now--then he gets tip on top of that (inb4 "no wonder he's not doing as well at that price."). I could do $20 range and think that's fair but anything much above that for what I need done seems excessive.
Anyone have a recommendation as to who to try? I'm thinking anywhere in the Hampden/broadway and south to Littleton area or thereabouts. Seems like a lot of newer places are charing a fortune for lots of bells and whistles and needing to pay higher lease costs. Got to be some great, hole-in-the-wall or smaller old-style barbers who do it right and don't break the bank.

My barber is awesome. But he's at 6th and 225. The clip joint.

$13 plus tip is a great price for hair cut. The going rate in the Aurora area for a “Barber Shop” is $17 - $20 plus tip. I’m not talking about one of those one style fits all chain hair styling places.

I guess I'm just a cheap bastard as I make my wife cut my hair (what little is left) :p

I use Alfani?s on Colfax, worth the drive. Just call ahead and ask for David. Small shop that takes the time to get to know you and do it right the first time and price is good.

Good Luck-seems like all the "barber shops" are going away and being replaced by "stylists"

Yeah . . . this is what I have been finding. Some places I checked out listed as "moderate" pricing were $30 for a men's cut. "But that comes with a warm towel, straight razor neck shave, etc". Well, great--but all I need is my hair cut and I'll just go home and wash it after.
I broke down and went to my regular guy today just because it was time and the few shops I checked today were either boked up and/or just too damn expensive. He actually did a nice job today--more like he used to more consistently. But I'm noting the suggestions I'm getting and I'll check some out over time and see where it goes. Appreciate all the suggestions.
At some point, since I get 3/4 of it cut really short anyway . . . I may just say screw it and get some clippers myself and go all-around buzz (like a #2 or #3).

I can't find a barber for near that cheap, which is why I just started shaving my own head, down to a #1, simple and free!
I’ve had good luck with Floyd’s. Been to a couple and will stick with one barber. They follow instructions pretty well.
I think a basic cut is $20 plus tip.
I cut my hair too with a #1.
I go to Great Clips which is $16. Every cut I get a $4 off coupon for next time. Everyone who's met me knows how handsome I am.

Most self employed people are also good at b.s'ing their customers .
Disclaimer: Okay. This recommendation might be from long ago,but I just did yelp/google search and they seems to still have same good service.
I use to go to Regatta in aurora (closed over decade ago) and met a good barber named Simon. Found out he moved to Hoffmans during late 90s Ish. Last time I've been there was around 1999 or 2000 but he was exceptionally awsome.
I now live north and I go to whoever has a good coupons.
I believe simon at Hoffman barber service is most likely still same/similar by reading all the reviews. Give Simon Aminov at Hoffmans a try.
Do read Yelp google BBB etc and do DD prior.

I go to the Foxridge barber shop at Holly and County Line, About $20. I like Vivian the best but always get a decent cut.
Appreciate all the suggestions!

All this talk got me motivated, so I cut my hair tonight, left the top at whatever length it was (probably #2), and did the sides and back with a #1, the "fade" turned out pretty good, and the best part.....free!
I can do the #3 all around, but I cant cut the jungle that is the back of my neck. :(
Ya'll motivated me too, and the local salon got my $20 for maybe 10 minutes work.
On the plus side, I got called a Bruce Willis wannabee (by players) at tonight's Christmas Party. :)

I know a place that charges $8 to 10 for a haircut, but you gotta go there at your own risk. 80% of reviews are mostly true.

Isn't that the same strip mall as Dave's Guns? It has some less than stellar reviews.
My big complaint with hair cuts is the time it sucks. I've been buzzing myself for 20 years. I started cutting my son's hair because it took two hours and 15 bucks for a crappy cut. I would recommend looking at a Flowbee buy I've never seen it work out well.
Should pay for itself in 5 hairbuts: https://www.flowbee.com/
Or try eBay! https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=flowbee
2 hours for a hair cut? Where?

This one is at parker and yale. It is near FedEx office and the Golden Saigon.
I believe Dave's was near parker and Beeler.

Same here. I've had the same gal cutting my hair for the last 20 years, since she worked at Great Clips and has been working for Floyd's for quite some time. I only see her about every 1-1.5 months, so I don't mind paying more and tipping her well. She's also a licensed barber and is not just a 'stylist'.

I'm talking for start to finish. Actual time in chair is 20 mins. I'm sure I could have shaved time if I had an appointment.
I can see that, especially if you show up during a busy time and have the whole family to get done.
