View Full Version : Last trip to White Fence Farms tonight.
An area destination is going out of business at the end of the year. They weren't taking reservations so the wait was looooooooong. I'm not quite sure why they are calling it quits. They seem to always be busy, even before announcing closing. It's about 30-40 bucks per adult plus all the extra stuff for sale in the gift shop. Too bad, it's a great place for kids. I hear its all getting knocked down. Capitalism and progress.
I?m so sad

Busy != profit, unfortunately.
I wonder if they, like CPW, relies too much on one area of the business to prop up another.
I took my family one last time on Black Friday and it was very disappointing. We’ve gone every so often for years and while often busy, the service and food have always been good... until this last trip. It was a long wait for what amounted to tired, poorly seasoned fried chicken that I didn’t even want to pay for much less the price they charged.
I’ve always loved the place, but if their primary trouble is getting good people to run it, then I understand and support them closing. I’d much rather see it close than be ruined and stay open for a longer time.
Never heard of it so I had to look it up.. Did they charge admission just to get in? There’s no way a restaurant on it’s own could fund an operation like that.

So it is a petting zoo and a restaurant? With a live band? Really?

It was a petting zoo. But with them closing, they're offering exotic game meats as a thank you to their long time customers.
Maybe Casa Bonita will buy the property and give having a second location a try again.

A relation and some of their friends are heading down there for lunch this afternoon as well.
I've been there twice and never really cared much for it. Sorry to see 'em go I suppose...for the folks that did like it.

I know the ownner personally. The property is worth far more than selling small ass fried chickens to old people and kids.

I've never been there but I did look them up online many times throughout the years with the intent on going.
I'm saddened that they are closing only because I hate when cool places get torn down to make for further urban sprawl. Once it's torn down it will likely be replaced with another over-priced apartment/condo complex, a strip mall or an office building. My guess is the before and after pics will be disheartening.
Looking at the location on google maps looks like they could shoe horn in at least 20 and maybe up to 30 homes in that giant parking lot they have. As someone stated above, a lot more money than a restaurant could ever generate.

That was always a family favorite growing up. We’d get our extended family there (~20 people) there twice a year, plus a few trips with the immediate family. There has been a sharp decline in quality since the new owners took it over from the Wilson family. Sad to see it go.

I wondered if that was the case or the inability to hire decent help was the driving factor. Last time Ava and I went the service sucked but it was still fun.

Man, I haven?t been there in a while.
Maybe I can gets some suckers.... eh, family I mean.... to come visit so I can treat them to an evening of entertainment and fine Mexican cuisine.
Don't get me started on Casa Bonita. I've eaten at many places that have much worse did than they do, and no restaurant I've ever been to comes even close to the atmosphere. IMO that place is a win (at infrequent intervals) and gets a much worse reputation than it deserves. I don't want to deal the thread though.
We went to WFF once and it was pretty good.
