Just for fun.
If you have a Chevy, have you ever been at a stop and put extra pressure on the brake pedal? More than just to hold you in place. Does it bleed off almost to the floor? I have talked with a few Chevy owners who have been driving them for a number of years, and once I suggested they try it, the pedal does go all the way down. They had never noticed it before.

Does yours?

Post what vehicle, and what year it is, that you tried it on.

I?m assuming they must be using hydraulic assist and not a vacuum booster?

I checked the 14 Cruze and the 12 Traverse and neither do that with the brake pedal.

Mrs BG and I have owned 7 Chevys model year 2012 and newer since 2012. They have all been among the most reliable and trouble-free cars/trucks I've ever owned. An occasional recall for a seatbelt issue (Traverse) or a O2 sensor (Cruze diesel) of some sort has been the only issues.

Tesla says they would be willing to take over the GM factories that are laying people off.

Once they get more .gov subsidies, i'm sure.

2004 suburban
2016 equinox
2017 duramax

None of them do that. And none of my previous trucks I get every year or two new since 08 or any of my wife’s equinoxes she gets every 2-3 years have done that either. I’d get it checked out.

My 2000 Silverado has always had a spongy brake pedal. I can mash it down to the floor any time it is running. When the engine is off, I can still pump the pedal until it is rock solid. I never liked the brakes on this truck.

None of ours do.

All 2013's, 2014's, and 2015's. 2500/3500 Duramax trucks.

2001 Silverado Duramax, 2013 Camaro SS, all good. Mother's 2019 Buick is fine as well, so she said.

If you have hydroboost it feel squishy if you stomp hard. You can also hear the sound of the P/S pump change if you listen real close. As a possibility the drums are not adjusting properly. This shouldn't be a thing but my buddy's 2011 or so GMC 1500 has drums in the rear. I know they had drums on rear as late as 2013. That is professional grade.

But, they make great works trucks with the Duramax/Allison combo, and they ride more comfortably than the Ferds and Dodges...

Have you seen the new Allison that isn't made by Allison?

2020 Silverado HD Allison Transmission Isn’t Really An Allison (http://gmauthority.com/blog/2018/12/2020-silverado-hds-allison-transmission-isnt-really-an-allison/)

There’s one interesting tidbit of information about the 2020 Silverado HD’s hardware you may not have heard yet, though. That new Allison 10-speed isn’t actually made by the familiar Indianapolis-based engineering firm. It will be built in-house by General Motors and simply features Allison branding. The transmission isn’t closely related to the 10-speed automatic found in the 2019 Silverado 1500, as far as we can tell, with General Motors describing the Allison-branded unit as “all-new.”

I've been a Chevy guy my whole life. Was totally unimpressed by the 2019 1/2 ton trucks. My new 2019 RAM is head and shoulders above the GM offerings.

Oh oh, licensing out one's technology but not being in charge of it ... that's usually the start of a problem ...

My '04 Suburban seems to require a lot of pedal to get stopped. Not a big deal until I switch to the wife's Honda CR-V. I've nearly given her whiplash a few times when I hit the pedal on the Honda as hard as I hit it on the 'Burb.

Having said that, with regards to quality, overall I'm pretty impressed. 14 years old and 180,000 miles and my old 'Burb just keeps on chugging and shows no sign of its age.

I'm a recovering Toyota bigot but got tired of paying the Toyota Tax. I used to turn my nose up at domestic trucks but except for the transmission (a known weakness in the GMT-800 trucks from 2000 - 2006) it's been rock solid. Pulls our 3500lb trailer all over Colorado and neighboring states.

I hate to say it but sometimes I kind of wish it would crap out so I could justify buying a new truck. [LOL] The new Rams look awesome.

I don't know why but I have an irrational aversion to Dodge/Ram trucks. I've never owned one so have little first hand experience. I wouldn't own one if someone was giving them away. I don't know why I feel that way but I do. One of those weird things in life, I guess.

My 2003 Tahoe has the spongy GM brakes but my 2005 Silverado are rock solid. The tahoe has 135K on it and the silverado at 218K. I haven't dug that far into it to see what GM changed in those years but for the most part they are the same rig. The silverado does have electric fans and some other minor changes so I am wondering if something changed on the brakes as well.

I hear ya. I've never been interested in an FCA product before this truck. It's Ram (not Dodge since 2009), so that gets me by. [Coffee]

I wonder if this is as bad as when Chevy experimented with "self bleeding brakes"....

Was riding shotgun with a buddy maybe 20 years ago now. Going about 35mph, my buddy was always a speed limit going, by the book driver. A couple hundred yards up, a car pulls out in front of traffic, loads of brake lights. Several cars whack into one another. Total # of vehicles involved was like 6, the person who pulled out kept going of course.

No matter, we had plenty of time to stop. But we're not really slowing down that fast... I look over at my buddy, and he's all but standing up on the brake pedal, it's probably shoved half way through the floor well. And sure enough, we're car #7 to hit.

So we're in one of those states where the last car to hit has all responsibility for the accident. We made sure the cops who responded got pictures of the 2 lines of brake fluid going for a hundred yards down the road from where the brakes figured it was a great time to bleed themselves! Chevrolet ended up paying for every single vehicle in that crash.

My 2014 Silverado has no problems whatsoevah.

Now, my wife's 2007 Kia Sorento - I've driven go-karts with better brakes.
