View Full Version : Colorado Deputy and two citizens killed in vehicle crash

Sergeant Matthew Moreno was killed in a vehicle crash on Highway 12, near Valdez, while responding to a domestic incident at 8:00 pm.

Sergeant Moreno's patrol pickup and a second patrol vehicle both collided with a vehicle that was traveling in the opposite direction. Sergeant Moreno and the two occupants of the other vehicle, including an infant, all succumbed to their injuries. A deputy in Sergeant Moreno's vehicle and the deputy in the second patrol car were both injured.

Sergeant Moreno had served with the Las Animas County Sheriff's Office for five years. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, and one stepson.

I proctored him on his EMT last year. He wasn't just law enforcment, he was an all around first responder as stodg said. R.I.P. Matt.

Not me...simply because it's irrelevant. What matters here is good people lost their lives in a tragic incident. May God be with their families and loved ones in their time of grief.

First responder losses are always terrible. But this one sounds especially awful.
RIP, and may the families and friends of those lost in this accident find peace.

I hope this link works. It is the CSP report of what happened. Apparently the car that hit Matt was being driven by a drunk/drugged driver traveling at 96 mph in a 45 mph zone that came into his lane.

So my original curiosity is justified, someone was being a colossal irresponsible asshole. (DUI parent) It's the stories like this one that scare me more than dealing with obvious dirt bags.
