The shooting event of the Rocky Mountain State Games (http://coloradospringssports.org/index.php/events/rocky-mountain-state-games) is at risk of not happening in 2019. A friend that works at The Sports Corp and I would very much like to see it happen and are starting the investigation into how to make it a reality.

The State Games of America (the National Championship of the State Games) has just published their 2019 rimfire format, and it's using the Rimfire Challenge Shooting Association?s (RCSA) rules (http://www.rimfirechallenge.org/docs/2018RCSARuleBook-v010418.pdf). We'd like to see RMSGs have a similar format.

But we need a lot of steel to do so, so this is a call for loaner steel.

We'd need the loaner steel from early July to early August, maximum, for logistical reasons.

We're talking .22 rimfire only, so it's easy on the steel. All steel is static (doesn't fall) and painted, racks are welcome but they'd be setup to be fixed. We need 8" and larger circular, square and rectangular plates (by the rules, 8" is the minimum size plate which eliminates most racks I've seen).

If you've got steel you can loan and/or know folks/clubs/whatever I could contact to borrow steel, please either reply to this thread or email me at the address below. Please!

I really hope we can pull this off.

Thanks!

Thanks Hoser!

O2HeN2, can you let me know if you need any help. I am on the BOD of RCSA and as far as I know, we were not aware of the use of our rules. Would like to see what we can do to promote this to our sponsors and vendors. We will likely reach out to the national group after our meeting tomorrow, so if you know a specific person in charge of the rimfire portion, that would be good for us to know.

Yes, thank you Hoser, and for the emails, too!

I've got a PM out to MarkCO with my phone number to start that conversation as well.

Hope I won't jinx anything, but I got a contact in the State Games, RCSA and found steel all in less than 48 hours.

Thank you all!

I have a good feeling about the State Games!

People of the gun are made of 100% awesome.

Looks like it’s handled but I have a bunch of 3/8” mild steel plate I could cut out with the plasma if needed

If you end up needing more, I'd be happy to donate some. If there is a need, shoot me an email at: austin@aatargets.com and we'll help out however we can.

Thanks! Still juggling all the data and waiting for more; I expect the dust to start settling mid-January at which point we'll know better what we need.

Just a quick announcement: Thanks to everyone's help, shooting is going to be part of the Rocky Mountain State Games this year!

We still have some ducks to get in a row, but check it out, shooting is already "penciled in" on the RMSG splash page (http://rockymountainstategames.com/)!

It'll be a one-day match, on one of the following dates: July 20,21 or 27,28.

We'll be following the Rimfire Challenge Shooting Association's (http://www.rimfirechallenge.org/) rules for open class (all guns), with the following modifications:
1. There will be a separate handgun and rifle competition (you can enter both at a discount if you wish).
2. There will be four strings on each stage, worst run thrown out (RCSA rules say five strings).

Other than that, we'll stick to the RCSA rules.

Depending on how well this flies, we'll see if we can make it a full-fledged RCSA match next year.

Hope to see some of you at the match!

Again, thanks for everyone's help to make this come together so quickly!

Looking at the form, I need a YMCA. #??

Are you saying that even after selecting "No" for "YMCA member?" you're being asked for a number?

O2

Ps. I'll verify but I think why the YMCA is wound up in this is because of the more traditional sports like baseball, volleyball, etc.

This is a just a little more than a week away folks!

Turnout so far is light -- we're a go no matter what, but I'd like to see more shooters!

As I mentioned before, If we fail this year, shooting gets dropped from the Rocky Mountain State Games.

If you're thinking of coming PLEASE signup in advance so we have a good count of the number of shooters!

I just went thru the signup yesterday (haven't paid yet, since I won't be 100% sure until after this weekend), but did not have any issues with it requiring a ymca number. I saw the spot for it, but left it blank and everything worked fine.

I see mention of the 3 strings, but I could not find anything that specifies how many stages.

I'll chip in for gas, etc.I will know later today if I am going down. I will post here and PM you. Usually travel to Springs on an eastern route but can easily travel through metro to car pool.

Thank you all that are coming! As of last night we have 22 shooters registered!

Online registration closes tormorrow, Wednesday July 24th at midnight (http://events.clearthunder.com/RMSG19). We will do day-of, on-site registration but it's $10 more.

buffalobo and DenverGP (and anyone else from the 'board that's coming) - be sure to introduce yourself to the taller of the two commissioners when you arrive!* I always enjoy putting faces with names.

Limited GM, I sent you a PM.

Well that's a horrible oversight! 4 stages, each stage 5-7 targets.

I see above there is four days listed. My first assumption was shoot any of those dates, but looking on the other site, I see only the 28th listed?
Clarification please.

Yhea, those were the possible dates, we finalized on the 28th.

Right, different events for the Rocky Mountain State Games take place over those 4 days. Only day for shooting is Sunday the 28th.

I paid my $40 for registration, so I'll see you on Sunday. Gotta go zero the red-dot on the 10/22 tomorrow.

Thanks to Roger/Randy for the effort to make match happen. IMO it is important to keep this match part of RMSG. Very smooth event is a huge testament to their dedication, skill and effort. Everyone I spoke with enjoyed it and looks forward to next year.[AR15][Beer]

Did we lose the scores for stage 3?

You'll see (in very small print) a note at the bottom of the initial RMSG results page - this contains a link to some final comments, including an apology for losing a stage...

Some more words, but still not an explanation yet:

At the end of the day I pulled down scores from the four tablets and had absolutely zero scores for the third stage. I'm still trying to reconstruct what happend.

Scoring was my biggest worry since we're supposed to hand out medals immediately after the competition. I've been scoring Whistling Pines' steel matches as dry runs to assure that I had everything down pat, and this STILL happend. :(

I was the captain of the ship, and it was my responsibility. I don't want to have this happen again, so I'm going to keep digging until I find the root cause or I exhaust all the information I have.

Thanks for a very fun match.

You're welcome! And thank you all for coming out! Everyone appeard to have a good time, we got some new shooters that had never competed before and everyone went home with the same number of holes that they came with, resulting in some very bored on-site EMTs (a good thing)!

Well we made the cut so the sport could continue! We're part of the Rocky Mountain State Games again this year, but we're are still on double secret probation, which means we need to grow the sport a bit more.

This year is same format as last year but we're splitting apart optics and iron sights, so more trophies!

Date is Saturday, July 18th. You can get more information here:

http://www.coloradospringssports.org/shooting/

Thanks to all that came out last year, it looked like everyone had a great time!

Quick heads up, more details will follow. The Rocky Mountain State Games rim fire steel competition is on for this year, Saturday, July 18th.

Late notice I know, but COVID was a monkey wrench. The games are much, much smaller because of it, and I'm glad we can still be part of it!

Like last year, four stages, three runs each stage, drop the worst run.

Unlike last year we're breaking out optics and iron sights.

It's a medal match, and we hand out LOTS of medals!

Signup: http://www.coloradospringssports.org/shooting/

Again, more details soon!
