I really want to read this book, but can only find it being sold at rare book stores for ungodly amounts of money. Some day, if I like the book, I might look for one to buy, but I want to read it first.

Someone out there willing to part with their copy of the book for me to read? You will get it back, unmolested.

It is an excellent book. I found a copy at the public library in Colo Spgs. Its been 8-9 years ago though. Might be worth a shot. Also, Ross has a website. www.john-ross.net (http://www.john-ross.net) He was selling his book through his site a while back. Good luck.[Luck]

+1 on the ungodly amounts of money wanted for a copy. But I did find it at accurate press for 60 + 4 for shipping and ordered one couple days ago. Heres a link if your interested https://www.cgcommerce.com/store/index.php?storeid=45
the general disscussions around this book has prompted me to read it. Good luck! By the way I did see them ranging anywhere from starting bid $50 on ebay to over $225 from rare book stores.

I had a signed copy, loaned it to my Dad who gave to a friend.
Would make a great movie. Everything from 20MM anti tank guns to stunt planes and four inch M-29's with plastic bullets.
I haven't had this much fun since the hogs ate my little brother.
The Black Arrow is another good book.

It looks like this is the next book I'll have to acquire and read - after I finish Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. Atlas Shrugged is a BIG book (1164 pages) but really is a must read. This book is "fiction" and was published in 1953 but the events described are exactly the scenario we see playing out today. I like to call this book a political commentary, sort of a Conservative Manifesto.

I read atlas shrugged. In small paperbook form, too. Good god is it long. There's one point where Galt goes into a speech, and in the little book I was ready I swear it was like 30 pages. Ayn Rand was not one for being subtle. I should probably read fountainhead sometime.

Just remember, the GOP is absolutely NOT for small government. They move their mouths, but it's still lies. DHS? Patriot Act? No administration ever spent more money or expanded government as much as GWB 43.

Down with republicrats

I'm in agreement, note that I used the word "conservative". I think that the Republican party betrayed true conservatism after Reagan left office. We need to do away with this whole "two party" system. Until that happens we won't be able to get true conservatives into office.

Yeah, that speech is at least 30 pages...it's where Ayn Rand abandoned all pretense of writing a fiction novel and just laid out here whole philosophy on politics.

I did want to read Atlas Shrugged, but I keep hearing that it isn't written well as far as novels go. I read all 12 of the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind; and he is a self professed Rand follower or whatever. A couple of my friends that read the Sword of Truth series said it was basically like reading Ayn Rand anyway, so I feel like I've got the gist of it.

It's your standard dissertation on why communism is bad. Human Nature and all.

I read the Sword of Truth series and Atlas Shrugged during my last tour in Iraq (read over 3 dozen books while I there). I agree Goodking is a Rand fan, but there is also different philosophy in there too. I saw a lot of individual freedom philosophy from Lock in there too.

Read Atlas Shrugged. It could be shorter for sure, but the story isn't that bad at all.

Finally, someone who has read them both! I'll look into it, thanks for the recommendation SAFriday.

Currently, I'm trying to work my way through the Bible as my own reading, and my lady and I like to read books together. Right now we are in book 4 of the Harry Potter series. This is my second time through, and it is much better, as a whole, than the Sword of Truth series.

My wife has a Kindle ebook reader from Amazon. I recently learned from her that you can download the Kindle software to your PC or laptop for free.

Amazon has many books that you can also download for free to your PC or laptop once you have the software installed. I downloaded several books a few nights ago. It's actually not bad reading on the computer.

I got several books including four from Don Brown...mostly political thrillers like Vince Flynn would write. I also downloaded Ben Franklin's autobiography and The Art of War. All free.

I gave the info to my son in Iraq and he's already downloaded several books and started reading them as well.

I read a borrowed copy many years ago - purchased it - and it sits on my bookshelf. Been meaning to get it out and read it again. Great book.
BTW: Not to hijack this thread, but on a side note here, while I was poking around - I came across this:
http://www.eff.org/files/DMCAUnintended10.pdf
Unintended Consequences: 10 years under the DMCA.

This is about the Digital Melinnium Copyright Act and the effect it has had on different areas of technology.
Good read for techies.
