View Full Version : Stock Show Jan 12-28th
Stock Show is coming soon. I've been a few times, but never done any of the events. Is there anything that we shouldn't miss? Is the rodeo pretty good?
Rodeo is awesome. And the bull riding is always fun to watch
The Mexican rodeo is pretty cool to watch. Lots of detail in the outfits and really well trained horses
I'm guessing traffic and parking will suck more than usual but, great experience.
The Mexican Rodeo has a lot of theatrics and showmanship.. the regular rodeo is just that, bull and bronc riding. If you have daughters they usually like the show that the Westernaires put on.
Here is a link to the schedule in case others are interested as well.

Standing next to a draft horse gets my attention, but otherwise don't have much interest in the whole affair. I know it's fun for lots of folks and the kids, so head down and enjoy it!

If the city of Denver owns the facility, I would suspect no. I also do not remember any metal detectors or wands when you walk in there either. It's been at least 15 years since I attended the stock show, maybe longer.

The Budweiser Clydesdales will be in Denver tomorrow, in celebration of the repeal of the 3.2 liquor law. My bride and I are gonna go take a look. I typically don’t like being that near the Capitol, but will make an exception for those beasts.
Draft horse pulls and herding dogs are my favorite. I go to see the animals (two legged and four).
I have never been checked at this facility but it might be a new thing.

Mmm. Buckle bunnies.
Are those like the Hall sisters in Urban Cowboy?
I can honestly say I don?t think I ever saw that movie.

Weird.
Herding dogs +1
The GF and I'll be there most of the day on Saturday, the 26th and specifically at the 6 horse hitch show @6pm.
Guess I need to bite the bullet and order tickets.
ChickNorris: Stock dog finals are at 10:30am that day if you like herding.

Sounds like I should self-label as a "hitch groupie" before someone calls me a buckle bunny.
Growing up on the Front Range, we went to the Stock Show every year and loved it. But living on the Western Slope for so long we never made it over. We plan to go this year.
Around the same time from January 10-13, is the Denver International Sportsmen?s Expo at the Colorado Convention Center. Fishing and hunting seminars and 500 exhibits: https://www.sportsexpos.com/downloads/files/2019%20Show%20Programs/ISE_DEN_program_2019-web.pdf
Say hello if you're there, I'll be manning one of the CPW information booths. (I look like my avatar :>)
We like going to the Grand Prix. Watching the rider and horse clear those huge jumps is pretty entertaining.
January 21, 2019 - 7:00PM.
Also like the Draft Horse pull.
Ccw friendly?
Never had a problem carrying there, but never attended any paid events either.
Count me out, I'm allergic to about everything there.

Hopefully the bad guys aren't CCW'ing this year...

I remember that.
Yeah, me too. Different crowd/element though.

I hope you had fun doing that today, and you could maybe get quite a bit closer to those beasts if you hit up the SS. Those animals are quite impressive.

"The shooting happened inside the National Western Complex Expo Hall during the Colorado Motorcycle Expo."
Commentary said it was between some of the members of the outlaw motorcycle gangs.
Past the Stock Show time.

Past the Stock Show time.It was the mongols and iron order (a law enforcement/corrections officer based club) iron order was the shooter.
I have my opinion on most LE mc club members I have have met. Let's just say a lot of them seem to think they are above the law.
The last bar shooting in Sturgis was also le club member instigated(blue knights iirc). Got in fight in bar w/ HA. Was getting bested, so pulled his pistol and shot him.
Carrying while drinking in bar is a big no-no in SD.
Sent from somewhere...
Looks like we had to tweak our trip. I'll be there at about noon this Friday, January 25th. I'll be going to the 7pm Draft Horse show.*
Usually do a loop of the coliseum and then slalom the rows in the Hall of Education the rest of the time.
PM me by Thursday if you'll be there Friday and want to put a face with a name.

*Adult grounds admission is $19, the draft horse show is $21 and includes grounds admission. For $2 the show is a no-brainer!
Ahh jeeze, just like last year, I intended to go, and haven't even made an attempt yet. Kind of thinking about picking up a single turkey hen.
Thinking I'm going this Sat.

We watched the 6:00 pm Mutton Busting show. It was a great time. The little girls could hang on to those sheep way better than the little boys. It was pretty impressive.
Didn't make it to the poultry barn this year. Spent most of the time downstairs, in the cattle section, and in the stock yard. The working dog competitions are always fun.
Got a mandatory red eye too. [Beer]
The poultry barn is in the same building as you were at (which is where we spent most of the time as well), just on the I think North side of the building. I wanted to get a red beer, but didn't see any.
