Just saying.

Be even less sucky if the shop was built. But that's a mid jan project, unless this weather puts that off a week.

Seems the valley (Phoenix) has been below freezing the last few nights. For them that's practically a state of emergency. They will not come out again till ground hog day. Which is where the building and contractors live.

Just drove back from AZ, north of Phoenix.
I-40 to I-25 and north. New Mexico uses some sort of red dirt/sand/mud/clay/glue on the roads.
Ice and Red Mud packed under the Yukon - Took it to Bear Car Wash and front man said, "yes, we will get rid of all that mess"
Back-end supervisor said, "Nope, we don't clean under the vehicle!"
Left it on the street 2 warm days and have piles of red glue there, in the garage, on the driveway, and it is still melting.
ARGH!

The more you post the more I find I really like you. I share the same position on snow and cold, but I guess I recognize that we need the moisture; ugh!

After having this house built in 1995, I just had my window replaced last Thursday & Friday; they've needed to be replaced for years. Thing is, I have to replace the wood trim that was around the old windows. Since I didn't want the window folks to just put a vinyl cap over the rotten wood, they yanked the old trim off and now I've got the area around most of my windows totally exposed. Thanks to the snow, cold and wind I can't/won't get out there and get these things covered. First world problems and all.

Stay safe everyone. After yesterdays warmer weather the roads are likely to be slick with this moisture on the ground.

I have a travel trailer to move and we decided today might not be the best day for it.

The chickens are not excited about this snow. They are seeking shelter under the coop.

My Dad would wake me at 4 am when I was little, and would take me with him when he snowplowed. He depended on me to keep him awake. :)
Snow is an integral, happy part of my history. :)

Plowing is a pain in the ass, shoveling is a pain in the ass, folks who don't know how to drive in it are a pain in the ass, and freezing my ass off is most certainly a pain in the ass.

New trendy sticker idea.... Never Snow Symbol.

Along with the snow comes this ridiculously cold weather. At 2PM Colo Spr is supposed to hit it's HIGH of 14 degrees (that's -10 celcius....which 14 degrees feels more like a negative 10).

I really hate cold weather.

Yes, for the Department of INTERIOR (you know, INSIDE, since it's cold outside) :)

It's supposed to get into the 50's on Friday and throughout the weekend. That'll let me get back outside to finish getting the wood trim around my new windows.

I came from year round moderate temps and sometimes rain.

I love the four seasons and all that comes with it. Cold and snow, no problem.

Once I was driving south from Fargo in a snowstorm, it wasn't bad and I could see well enough to drive at roughly 45 MPH. Then it got worse and I had to slow down to about 35 MPH. Snow flying all over the place but after a while I was seeing what looked like sunlight and maybe a flash of blue sky. This went on for maybe a little over an hour. Then I was passed on the left by a 18 wheeler going at a pretty good clip. When he passed me his wake blew that snow all over the place and I caught sight of a flashing blue light. Oh crap, for probably the last two hours I had been following a snow plow down the interstate maybe 20 feet behind him and never saw him until that semi drove by. I pulled out to the left and everything cleared up, I passed the plow and was able to drive 50 MPH and better all the way to Sioux Falls.

The shittiest plow story I think I've ever heard is when they catch on a bridge expansion joint. I'm aware of that outright stopping a plow COLD. I'm sure some experience makes that mostly preventable. But yeah, people suck too, of course.

Blew 3 plows off of trucks in 19 years.
And these were 3 1/2 ton bobtail trucks with 14' plows not "Fred's Landscaping Service" pickups.
1- EB I-76 at Clear Creek expansion joint. Rolling along at 10 mph or so, started lifting the plow to clear the joint and the last 4 inches of the plow dropped in the joint.
2- WB US36 at I25 interchange, nearly the exact same thing but aside from busting the plow loose it also diamonded the frame, broke the transmission casing. Basically totalled the truck.
3- NB Wadsworth at 52cnd Ave, cutting left turn lanes and caught the left edge of the plow on about 6 inches of curb bull nose. Plow ended up in the right lane, I recall seeing it glide across the lanes on the ice.
Funny thing, you hit that stuff at 20mph+ and the plow just rides or bounces over it.
Go slow and that is when you tear stuff up.
In all 3 instances the bosses never said a word, I was always good on the equipment and they were classified under "Shit happens when your doing your job".
We had some clowns that would trash 4 plows a year though.
They never progressed far in their career.
We had one guy who was out in a brand new tandem truck, probably 3/4 of a million $ truck. It was the second time the truck had been on the road for snow removal, he caught a manhole cover that was sitting high and it put the truck straight into the curb. Broke the head frame to the plow, broke the frame of the truck and diamonded it and the transmission case, slammed the bed into the back of the cab.
Destroyed the truck on its second shift.

Good times.

When I catch a manhole or material seam & trip my little 'Fred's plow', I always giggle & say 'FOUND IT, THANKS!' or depending on the severity & remaning cargo 'CHILL HOMIE'...

One of my favorite plow pranks was building a 10' berm around an a**hole's car one evening after he left the bar on the neighboring property. He started to drive out of my lot, passed out, hit a concrete light base & subsequently was hauled off by the police. Car was left in the middle of a drive lane & mucked my groove, mojo, zen et al.

It was a cool zero-ish & in late Dec. I happened to be there when he came back for it near a week later & hardly an inch had melted. When I drove back by later that afternoon it gave me satisfaction knowing the f*tard spent over four hours digging out his car, one ice block, back breaking shovel full at a time because he was still @ it.

That night it took me 7 minutes to relocate the entirety of the berm fortress to the other end of the lot.

Yep, satisfying indeed. You're welcome Sir.

Residential/Commercial lot plowing is it's own flavor for sure, but there really is something to be said for preserving your equipment. Yes you can get it done faster, or more done...but at what cost to the truck and the plow?

Nothing will get plowed if you break, or blow something out.
