View Full Version : What happened to Tula and Wolf primers?
Are Tula and Wolf small rifle primers no longer a thing? I can't seem to find them for sale anywhere.
I think they had a few problems with the early ones. They did a good job with taking care of the issue if I remember correct. Then they clearanced them out real cheap, I bought a few. My guess is after the shortage, the demand went way down. I never had one not go bang. However, they don't seat as nice as US made primers. I only use them for plinking.

How early is this account? I've never heard of an actual user having any problems. David Tubb bought like half a million for his own use.
I've found they have the lowest SD out of anything I've used.
Reliability, so long as you're not shooting a 223-specific hard primer in a pistol, is as good as anything (ask me how I know... I don't even consciously tap-rack-bang anymore)
Also, guess I just learned Widener's doesn't sell powder or primers anymore.. wow.
Also, internet says Wolf primers are discontinued.. http://forum.accurateshooter.com/threads/replacing-wolf-small-rifle-primers.3933402/
Also, just called Wolf and they confirmed they don't offer the primers anymore. Humbug.

Call Natchez. Wolf is Tula. The IIRC KVD? prefix was / is used for both. If you search, the SRP's are available. I still have a few K of the SRP's

Not sure on the time frame. I read it when I was researching whether or not I wanted a lot of them. And I'n not even sure it wasn't caused by user error. I've had not one problem with them. Though some go in TIGHT. Like they are a tiny bit over sized, or not exactly the right shape. The internet said Obama said NO , they're from Russia.
I have had good experience with Tula/Wolf primers. Bought many of them from PVI and some here on the board.
My understanding is they became unimportable along with all of those cheap 7N6 5.45 crates after Russia decided to repossess large portions of the Ukraine. Most of Russia's repo men are dressed and act just like the Russian Armed Forces. Good thing they waited till the Winter Games were over in Sochi.
I still have some Wolf Primers. Never had an issue with them, actually prefer them to some of the mainstays.

Yeah. I just loaded my last ones from a big purchase I made a long time ago. Guess I'm going to have to switch to something else now.

I like winchester & federal over CCI, especially for pistol. But that's my preference for what's worked for me.

Does anyone else believe 7N6 is armor piercing?
BATFE always seems ready to take away anything that makes shooting fun and affordable.

It dents ar500 steel better than 308 or ss109.

I believe it's moving at approx 2-300 fps faster then the ss109.
This looks like it may be 7n6...

Would 7n6 *actually* pierce hard plates from a pistol?
Or is the standard soft armor?
I don't know about a pistol but XM193 55 gr FMJ 5.56 cuts through level three body armor like a needle.
Here is an interesting comparison on some plates.

Thanks for the video. Watching some of those rounds knock over that plate stand was impressive.
All they gotta do is declare beached whales to be covered in flub armor, and bingo bango, now all ammunition is armor piercing.
[Some sarcasm of course]
I am kind of glad they haven't thought of some related strategies though.
Where have you been? Teddy Kennedy made several runs at exactly this kind of bill back in the 1990s and early 2000s. He attepmted to have a bill passed that would outlaw any ammunition that would pierce a (IIRC) Level II vest.
So, basically any and all centerfire rifle cartridges.
