View Full Version : Who is your favorite Comedian?

Mitch Hedberg is on my short list for stand up, though there are many others.
Was a local fellow named Keith "PJ" Moore who I was fond of too & i miss him terribly.
However my Husband holds the top spot on the list because he makes me laugh every single day.
Curious, with so many funny folks out there past & present, who are yours?

In the 60's, I probably would have said Bill Cosby or Bob Newhart, but with Bill off to jail, I guess his humor soured?
Quit watching the HBO, Showtime, etc. comedy specials because the humor is lost with the foul language.
Bah, humbug, no humor today!
Bill Cosby and George Carlin

If I could only pick one it would probably be George Carlin.
Fortunately I don't have to pick just one so here's a short list of favorites.

Mel Brooks. How could I have left him off my list?

We saw Fluffy live at the Pepsi center just over a year ago. Thet guy is hilarious.
Asking about a favorite comedian is like asking about a favorite song. Depends on the time of day.
Any day, any time is Rodney Dangerfield, George Carlin, Steven Wright, Bob Hope. For head-banging blood-pressure raising comedy I go with Sam Kinneson, AD Clay, Lewis Black.
There are some female comics I enjoy, Rita Rudner, Kathleen Madigan, Phyllis Diller, Paula Poundstone. BTW, Phyllis Diller was an accomplished pianist but chose comedy over music.
Kazoo.
He's pretty damn funny sometimes.
Honest Hamid is even funnier. [LOL]
Lots of older comedians have been mentioned. Some are dead. Some are in jail now. I don't abide the person but the comedy was classic.
I'll ad Rusty Warren, Redd Fox, Flip Wilson and Tommy Sledge.

I guess I don't watch enough of it to know. The example I was thinking of was George Lopez. I used to love watching his shows but the last few, he lost a fan. I refuse to watch anything he is in.
D.L. Hughley - I get a kick out of his old stuff.
Rodney Carrington - Saw him at the Budweiser Event Center and he really puts on a show.
Chris D'Elia - YouTube videos were better than his actual show
Felipe Esparza - Only listened to his stuff from 2012 that's pretty good
Local Stand up - I have a friend that puts on local stand up comedians at High Hops Brewey in Windsor that I have enjoyed. Some are better than others but it's a free even with good beer.

When I was vacationing in Florida, the TV provider had a station that played the old Johnny Carson shows. I think it was Cox.
I enjoyed watching his humor and it seemed like the interviews were funnier, even now.
I quit watching the Late Show with David Letterman when he seemed to become "meaner" with guests than humorous.
Jay Leno was okay, but he seemed more frivolous than entertaining after a few years.
After the change of people on all the night shows, I started watching the documentaries and gave up on humor.

Yes, comedy has been political from the beginning but it is more and more becoming political hit-pieces that are being labeled "comedy" just so they can get away with it. I generally find I have no interest in any of the contemporary "comedians". My favorites from the past were largely liberal but nowhere near as foul or blatant as Samantha Bee and her ilk. I've rarely found SNL funny, even in the period touted as their prime. Today ... I'd just as soon put in a DVD or Bluray of some classic TV or pull up some anime on Crunchyroll or hell, make a dental appointment rather than watch SNL.
I've never been a big fan of "Doctor Who" but the current instantiation is just horrid. Jodie Whittaker is a fine actress but her portrayal is a huge break in personality. There was some nice continuity as well as distinctions in personality between the last 3 or 4 actors but you can really tell there's a completely different editor at the helm now.
I like when comedians are political, but taking shots at both sides.

The escalators were out at DIA going from security down to the train over the Christmas holiday this year, maybe because of all the construction they are doing. As my wife and I were walking down them, I turned to her and said "sorry for the convenience".
One person laughed, made it all worth it.
Not mentioned yet that I saw, Brian Regan. I think his "Comedians in Cars getting Coffee" episode was hilarious. Stay away from his new Netflix show, the format didn't really work and felt a little stilted, but his typical standup specials are awesome.

I probably have a greater capacity for dry humor than some.
O i like dry humor. You have a lot of funny stuff.
Bob Newhart is one of my favorites. Probably liking Bob has me not so much with Todd as (imo) Bob does /did it much better. But every comedian has their time and relevance with their humor

Dave Chappelle
Even though he may or may not be a piece of human garbage, I really like Louis CK's work too.
Tim Conway
Harvey Corman
Carol Burnett
They once said that when they were warned to stay on script because of being short on time it was like waving a red flag in front of Tim Conway. The Siamese elephant is a classic favorite.

I've always like Arj Barker and I feel like we hardly ever hear anything from him. I saw him live at Comedy Works once where they had a bunch of comedians doing their tight five. He was a few comedians in and the crowd was all warmed up. He gets on stage and opens with, "Oh man, I have the worst memory. It's of my uncle molesting me!" The crowd was on board and in stitches.

I'll say it again since his 'Best of Ultimate Gold Greatest Hits' is on Netflix:
Jimmy Carr
I would hear Jimmy Carr on the comedy radio station, and they do such a great job of editing out stuff that can't be said on the radio that I had no idea how vulgar his comedy was. Imagine my surprise when I clicked on one of his Netflix specials once.

Right. Perhaps I should have mentioned he is not shy.
Thanks for putting it out there.
I don't think anyone should assume that comics are clean unless specifically stated.

Bob Saget, Full House star, was the one that caught me by surprise with his off show comedy.

Francis Colburn. Yhea, no one has ever heard of him. I like dry, Vermont humor.

Odd that this thread showed up this close to the top today. I just saw some sort of cooking show with Justin Wilson. I used to listen to his comedy stuff when I was just a wee lad.

There's a Justin Wilson channel on YouTube. Unfortunately, there are a couple of his series that aren't there. He reminds me of my maternal grandfather. I'll repeat watch just because I find him relaxing.
I also have a couple of his CDs.

Just judging by what's been going on in the world lately... Favorite comedian's gotta be God. And he's got a pretty dark sense of humor sometimes.

Just remember this face.....AAAAAAAAARRRRRrRr!!!!!!!!!!!
