Can't get past the paywall. Can you post some details?

There are no details. My guess: Student off campus in legal possession of a firearm had faculty go wacko on them.

I think the faculty was out of its jurisdiction. Legal term for saying they were assholes.

Four employees of Smoky Hill High School in Aurora — including the athletic director, the wrestling coach and an assistant principal — have been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into their handling of an off-campus incident in which a student was armed with a gun.
No one was harmed in the Nov. 29 incident, said Abbe Smith, spokeswoman for the Cherry Creek School District. Facts about the nature of the incident were not immediately available.
The Aurora Police Department, which is investigating the case, did not return a phone message seeking comment. It’s not clear whether the student, who has not been identified, has been detained.
The district is conducting its own independent investigation of the incident. The school employees allegedly mishandled the gun report.
Smoky Hill Principal Chuck Puga sent an email to parents of high school students informing them of the incident.
“This email is to inform you that four Smoky Hill employees have been placed on administrative leave regarding their handling of an alleged incident off campus involving a student in possession of a gun,” Puga wrote.
Puga said in his email that district officials are cooperating with law enforcement in the investigation and awaiting a determination.
The employees placed on leave include assistant principal Noah Harris, athletic director John Thompson, head wrestling coach Tommy Loyd and assistant coach and math teacher Jakob Fisher.
“The safety and security of our students is always our highest priority. We will provide more information when it is available,” Puga wrote.
Smith declined to elaborate on the off-campus gun incident involving a student.

"an off-campus incident in which a student was armed with a gun"
It could have been something illegal &/or dangerous. However, I suspect since it wasn't widely covered by the MSM at the time of the event (translation: blown out of proportion), it was likely a youth, who happens to be a student at this particular High School, was in legal possession of a firearm for lawful purposes - maybe even in just a social media post. But, since we all know all guns are evil (mmmmkay; YES..sarcasm), the 4 faculty members who have been suspended (okay, okay.."placed on leave") for poorly handling this "incident" likely felt the need to involve themselves and "take appropriate action" against said student. I love how the article uses the term "armed with a gun" without providing additional information about the "incident". Again, saying "armed with a gun" has a much greater negative reaction than saying "in possession of a firearm".
That's just my guess until the facts of the "incident" and how is was mishandled come to light.
Too bad. It's likely the fellow that lost his job is an entirely reasonable. The media is a bit irresponsible in just hinting of what happened. Makes most people assume the worst.

That's by design.
"alleged incident off campus involving a student in possession of a gun" sounds to me like they had no idea it happened as it's still alleged.
I wonder if the staff didn't report and there is a requirement?
